Universal MFG Unlocker 1.6.1 Brings Live DLSS Preset Switching to All NVIDIA RTX GPUs
Universal MFG Unlocker has received a significant update, introducing real time DLSS preset switching across NVIDIA's entire GeForce RTX lineup, including RTX 20, 30, 40 and 50 Series graphics cards. Developed by modder dashdogy, version 1.6.1 allows gamers to adjust DLSS Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction and Frame Generation presets directly during gameplay without restarting supported DirectX 12 titles.
According to the official GitHub release notes, the functionality was initially introduced for RTX 40 Series GPUs in version 1.6.0 and has now expanded to the remaining RTX generations. Players can access the integrated menu using the Backspace key, making it easier to compare image reconstruction quality, performance and visual stability between different DLSS models.
The update provides direct control over 3 major DLSS technologies:
| DLSS Technology | Available Presets | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Super Resolution | J, K, L, M | Adjusts image reconstruction models |
| Ray Reconstruction | D, E, F | Controls ray tracing reconstruction |
| Frame Generation | A, B, C | Changes frame generation models |
All 3 options support the game's default or NVIDIA driver settings. Changes to Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction apply immediately, while switching Frame Generation presets briefly restarts the generation process without requiring a full game restart. Availability depends on the game's supported DLSS implementation and installed runtime.
This functionality could be particularly valuable for enthusiasts testing DLSS 4.5 Presets L and M, allowing users to evaluate differences in ghosting, temporal stability, image clarity and performance during the same gameplay session.
Beyond live preset switching, version 1.6.1 adds full menu recognition for RTX 50 Series graphics cards, including Dynamic Multi Frame Generation controls, NVIDIA Reflex FPS limiting and performance monitoring. Since RTX 50 GPUs already support Multi Frame Generation natively, the utility provides additional controls rather than modifying NVIDIA's underlying implementation.
Older RTX generations also receive compatibility improvements. The update addresses an issue where Frame Generation remained disabled when NVIDIA App overrides supplied a newer DLSS runtime, previously reported in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on an RTX 3080. Meanwhile, RTX 20 Series Frame Generation support remains experimental.
The utility continues expanding beyond NVIDIA's ecosystem through Intel XeSS Multi Frame Generation integration, which operates on supported NVIDIA, AMD and Intel GPUs through OptiScaler. Version 1.6.1 improves its tensor core execution path when other software interacts with the DirectX 12 rendering pipeline.
Despite these improvements, live preset switching remains limited to supported DirectX 12 games. Vulkan titles and certain older DLSS Frame Generation runtimes still require a game restart to apply changes. Multi Frame Generation support also depends on the GPU, game integration and NVIDIA's permitted frame generation multipliers. The utility remains an unofficial modification, and compatibility with individual games is not guaranteed.
Universal MFG Unlocker 1.6.1 is available through the developer's GitHub repository, with installation instructions and the latest release files provided.
Universal MFG Unlocker 1.6.1 addresses an important limitation in NVIDIA's DLSS ecosystem by giving users greater control over image reconstruction without interrupting gameplay. For hardware reviewers and enthusiasts, switching between presets in real time makes it substantially easier to evaluate visual differences under consistent rendering conditions.
More importantly, the project demonstrates how community development can extend the capabilities of older RTX hardware. However, unlocking additional Frame Generation options does not guarantee native hardware efficiency or improved responsiveness, particularly on RTX 20 and 30 Series GPUs. NVIDIA could benefit from integrating similar live preset controls directly into its official application, making advanced DLSS customization more accessible without relying on unofficial modifications.
Should NVIDIA add real time DLSS preset switching to its official app, or do you prefer the flexibility offered by community developed tools? Have you tested Multi Frame Generation on an older RTX GPU?
