The Witcher 3 and SEGA Lead Gamescom 2026 Awards With 3 Wins Each

Gamescom 2026 has officially crowned its winners, with CD PROJEKT RED and SEGA collecting 3 awards each to become the most decorated companies of this year's event. The official Gamescom Awards 2026 featured 19 awards spanning games, platforms, exhibition experiences and community recognition, with Capcom and Ubisoft following closely behind with 2 victories each.

Perhaps the biggest surprise was CD PROJEKT RED's performance, as all 3 of its awards came from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a game originally released in 2015 that returned as one of Gamescom 2026's biggest attractions. Consumers selected the combined trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered and Songs of the Past as Best Trailer / Announcement, while merchandise connected to Songs of the Past received Best Merch. The Gamescom jury completed the sweep by selecting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Songs of the Past experience as Best Booth.

The renewed attention follows CD PROJEKT RED's major Gamescom reveal for The Witcher 3 Remastered, which launches September 29, 2026 with extensive visual, combat, progression and gameplay improvements. The newly revealed Songs of the Past expansion will follow during 2027, bringing Geralt back for another major adventure more than a decade after the original release.

SEGA matched CD PROJEKT RED with 3 awards, although its victories were spread across multiple projects. Alien: Isolation 2 received Best Audio, while Creative Assembly's Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 secured Best PC Game. SEGA itself received Best Lineup, recognizing the strength of its broader Gamescom presence.

Capcom also delivered one of the strongest individual game performances of the event. Onimusha: Way of the Sword won both Best Gameplay and Best Sony PlayStation Game, reinforcing the momentum behind Capcom's revival of the franchise. Ubisoft secured 2 awards through Rayman Legends Retold, which won Best Nintendo Switch 2 Game, and the Ubisoft Business Lounge, which received Best Business Booth.

Microsoft and Playground Games took Best Microsoft Xbox Game with Forza Horizon 6, while NetEase Games and Everstone Studio's Where Winds Meet received Best Mobile Game. GRYPHLINE's Arknights: Endfield secured Best Consumer Booth, while Games Done Quick received the special HEART OF GAMING Award for its contribution to gaming culture and charitable speedrunning.

The results are particularly notable because one of Gamescom 2026's dominant titles was not an entirely new AAA release, but an RPG now more than 11 years old. With The Witcher 3 surpassing 65 million copies sold, CD PROJEKT RED is effectively turning the game back into an active platform through Remastered, Songs of the Past and continued ecosystem support while development of The Witcher 4 moves forward.

The Witcher 3 winning 3 Gamescom awards in 2026 demonstrates just how much longevity a major game can achieve when a publisher continues investing in meaningful new content rather than relying exclusively on nostalgia. Remastered and Songs of the Past have created another genuine release cycle for a title that originally launched more than a decade ago.

SEGA's performance tells a different but equally interesting story. Winning Best Lineup while Alien: Isolation 2 and Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 secured individual awards suggests its broader portfolio strategy is gaining momentum. Gamescom 2026 ultimately rewarded 2 very different approaches: CD PROJEKT RED concentrating attention around one exceptionally durable franchise and SEGA building strength across several major releases.

Which Gamescom 2026 winner impressed you most, and does The Witcher 3 still deserve this much attention more than 11 years after its original release?
