NVIDIA Driver 617.14 Gets GeForce Ready for CONTROL Resonant and Gears of War E Day
NVIDIA has released GeForce Game Ready Driver 617.14 WHQL ahead of a busy stretch of major PC launches, bringing official optimizations for CONTROL Resonant, Gears of War E Day, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, and AION 2. The update is available now through the NVIDIA app and GeForce driver downloads, arriving just before CONTROL Resonant launches on September 24 and continuing through several major releases scheduled into early October.
CONTROL Resonant is the most demanding showcase in the group, launching with path traced rendering, DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction, Super Resolution, and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation. Remedy is using the new rendering stack across direct and indirect lighting, reflections, shadows, and other effects throughout its transformed Manhattan setting. The CONTROL Resonant PC requirements, which scale from conventional rasterized gameplay on older hardware to an RTX 5080 target for its highest path tracing profile. NVIDIA Driver 617.14 now provides the launch ready software layer for GeForce users ahead of release.
Gears of War E Day follows with early access on October 1 and a full launch on October 6. The Coalition is using Unreal Engine 5.8 with Lumen, MegaLights, Nanite, and NVIDIA RTX Mega Geometry, alongside DLSS Super Resolution, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, and Reflex. RTX Mega Geometry is particularly notable because Gears of War E Day will use it to improve ray tracing interaction with highly detailed Nanite geometry, including more accurate reflections and additional shadowing. The technical stack is substantial, although the final Gears of War E Day PC requirements remain comparatively accessible, with an RTX 3060 Ti listed for 1440p High and an RTX 5070 Ti targeting 4K Ultra at more than 60 FPS when reconstruction technologies are enabled.
The driver also prepares GeForce systems for AION 2 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered. AION 2 reaches its global audience on September 30 for Founder’s Pack owners and October 5 as a free release, with DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution and Multi Frame Generation available on supported GeForce RTX hardware. The Witcher 3 Remastered arrives September 29 with a considerably larger graphics overhaul, including path tracing, DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction, improved Super Resolution, faster Frame Generation, and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation reaching up to 6X on RTX 50 Series GPUs. CD PROJEKT RED is also introducing path traced hair rendering based around its upgraded HairWorks implementation.
For NVIDIA, Driver 617.14 is less about introducing a new graphics feature and more about getting its current RTX stack ready for several games arriving within days of each other. CONTROL Resonant and The Witcher 3 Remastered sit at the heavier end with full path tracing, while Gears of War E Day combines ray traced Unreal Engine technology with RTX Mega Geometry and AION 2 focuses more directly on reconstruction and frame generation. Players planning to jump into any of the four releases can install the 617.14 WHQL driver now.
September and early October are becoming a useful snapshot of where NVIDIA’s PC graphics strategy currently stands. Game Ready drivers are no longer simply about fixing compatibility before launch. They now arrive alongside increasingly specialized rendering stacks that can combine reconstruction, generated frames, neural denoising, path tracing, and engine specific RTX technologies depending on the game.
Gears of War E Day may be the most interesting test because it brings several of these technologies into a large Unreal Engine 5 production without requiring the extreme hardware normally associated with path traced showcases. CONTROL Resonant and The Witcher 3 Remastered will push considerably harder at the top end, while AION 2 shows the same AI rendering stack moving into a very different MMO workload.
Which game are you testing first with NVIDIA Driver 617.14: CONTROL Resonant, Gears of War E Day, The Witcher 3 Remastered, or AION 2?
