Beast of Reincarnation Adds DLSS 4.5 and FSR 4 but Story Improvements Fall Short
Game Freak has released Beast of Reincarnation patch 1.0.7, delivering several important technical and gameplay improvements shortly after launch, including NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR 4 support on PC. However, the first implementation of the promised story pacing improvements is considerably smaller than some players may have expected.
According to the official Beast of Reincarnation patch notes on Steam, update 1.0.7 adjusts the player camera both during and outside combat, increases text size across the game, changes the default cinematic cutscene setting from Cinematic to Performance mode, and allows players to remap the Interact button. Switching cutscenes to Performance mode also means they will no longer run at 24 fps by default, although players can still manually select Cinematic mode.
Combat has received additional tuning. Emma's parry window when taking damage has been adjusted, while bosses across all difficulty settings have received balance changes. Enemy encounters on Normal difficulty have also been revised, addressing some of the gameplay complaints that surfaced immediately following release.
PC players receive one of the most significant improvements in the update through support for NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR 4. The launch implementation of image upscaling had generated criticism, making the introduction of newer reconstruction technologies particularly important for players trying to balance image quality and performance. DLSS 4.5 and FSR 4 are increasingly becoming significant technologies across modern PC releases, with games such as Helldivers 2 also adopting both technologies.
The more controversial part of patch 1.0.7 is its approach to story pacing. Game Freak previously confirmed a series of continuous updates addressing performance, camera behavior, readability, and story pacing, creating expectations that the first patch could introduce more substantial adjustments to the narrative experience. Instead, the initial change focuses on affinity conversations that could previously trigger repeatedly, with these conversations now limited to once per in game day.
"Story pacing has been slightly adjusted."

While reducing repeated affinity conversations should improve the rhythm of progression, it does not directly address broader criticism surrounding the game's slow opening, cutscene structure, or the limited ability to skip certain cinematic sequences. Game Freak and Fictions have indicated that additional updates are planned to improve the cutscene experience, meaning more substantial narrative adjustments could still arrive later.
Beast of Reincarnation launched on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S in early August. Steam currently lists the game with a Mixed rating, with 54% of 3,039 Steam purchaser reviews marked positive, showing that player reception remains divided despite a generally stronger response toward its combat system and the relationship between Emma and her companion Koo.
Patch 1.0.7 is a strong first technical response from Game Freak, particularly on PC where DLSS 4.5 and FSR 4 provide modern reconstruction options that should have been properly implemented from launch. Camera improvements, better readability, parry adjustments, and Performance mode becoming the default also directly target several of the most common complaints.
The story changes are much less ambitious. Preventing repetitive conversations is useful, but calling it a story pacing improvement sets expectations considerably higher than what this patch actually delivers. Game Freak has already committed to continued updates, so the real test will be whether future patches tackle cutscene pacing, narrative structure, and other fundamental complaints rather than only adjusting smaller presentation issues.
Do DLSS 4.5, FSR 4, camera improvements, and combat adjustments make you more interested in trying Beast of Reincarnation, or are you waiting for Game Freak to deliver more substantial story improvements?
