Game Freak Plans Story and Performance Fixes for Beast of Reincarnation
Game Freak is preparing a series of updates for Beast of Reincarnation after its August 4 launch produced divided player feedback. The first patch is expected within 1 week and will introduce camera adjustments, larger text, story pacing improvements, additional bug fixes, and a change that makes Performance mode the default graphics setting instead of Cinematic mode.

The developer has not explained how the narrative will be revised, but it confirmed that story pacing will receive ongoing adjustments beyond the first patch. This could involve changes to cutscenes, dialogue timing, progression, or the slow opening chapters, although the exact implementation remains unconfirmed.
Beast of Reincarnation launched with a Mixed Steam rating, with approximately 54% of more than 1,926 early user reviews marked positive. Players have criticized technical performance, small text, camera behavior during large enemy encounters, and the pacing of the campaign, while professional reviews have generally responded more positively to its combat and relationship between Emma and Koo.

The action RPG takes place in Japan during 4026 and follows Emma, a Blight affected warrior, and her canine companion Koo. Combat combines real time swordplay and parrying with tactical commands that slow the action while players activate Koo’s abilities. The game is available for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, with Xbox Game Pass access included from launch.
Game Freak’s strategy resembles the continued support model used by Pearl Abyss, which is also revising narrative elements in Crimson Desert after release. As explored in our coverage of Pearl Abyss and its evolving premium game strategy, studios are increasingly treating major single player releases as products that can continue evolving through community feedback rather than remaining fixed after launch.
Improving camera behavior, text readability, and performance settings is conventional post launch support. Revising story pacing is considerably more ambitious because it may require changes to dialogue, cutscene structure, progression, and the order in which information is presented.
Game Freak deserves credit for responding quickly, but the announcement also raises questions about whether the game needed additional development time before release. Continued updates could strengthen Beast of Reincarnation and help establish it as a new franchise, but narrative patches must preserve the original creative direction rather than simply removing slower moments because of immediate launch criticism.
Can continued updates transform Beast of Reincarnation into one of Game Freak’s strongest original games?
