Nintendo may be preparing to reveal the release date for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake soon, as images reportedly showing special Zelda hardware for Nintendo Switch 2 have begun circulating online. The remake is officially scheduled for 2026, but Nintendo has yet to provide a specific launch date despite the game becoming one of the biggest remaining exclusives on the Switch 2 calendar.

According to images shared through the ResetERA forums appear to show packaging for a limited edition Nintendo Switch 2 system and Pro Controller created to celebrate The Legend of Zelda's 40th anniversary. The appearance of apparently finalized retail packaging has fueled speculation that Nintendo could be preparing a larger marketing campaign around the remake, potentially including its final release date. Nintendo has not officially confirmed either limited edition product, so the hardware should still be treated as a leak.

Previous reports surrounding the hardware suggested both a Zelda themed Switch 2 and a 40th Anniversary Pro Controller were in development, although the designs were reportedly connected to the wider franchise anniversary rather than specifically to Ocarina of Time. The rumored controller has been described as using green and gold detailing with a Triforce crest positioned between the system buttons.

Nintendo officially revealed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake during its June 2026 Nintendo Direct, confirming that the Nintendo 64 classic is being rebuilt exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. However, the announcement consisted of only a short teaser, leaving gameplay systems, world changes, technical details, pricing, and the final release date unrevealed. Nintendo's official product page continues to list only a general 2026 launch window.

With Gamescom approaching and Tokyo Game Show following in September, Nintendo has several opportunities to provide a more substantial look at the remake. A late 2026 launch remains possible, but reports suggesting a direct November confrontation with GTA VI remain speculation rather than confirmed scheduling information.

The leaked hardware packaging is more interesting as a marketing signal than as confirmation of any specific release date. If these products are genuine and approaching retail readiness, Nintendo could be preparing the next stage of Ocarina of Time Remake's campaign after deliberately revealing very little in June.

The remake already generated enormous attention when it was announced, becoming one of the most discussed games around the June showcase period. Nintendo does not need a lengthy campaign, but a full gameplay reveal alongside a release date and anniversary hardware would give Switch 2 one of its strongest promotional moments of 2026.
