World of Warcraft Forever Launches November 4 With More Than 1,000 New Quests and a Permanent Level 60 Azeroth

Blizzard has officially revealed World of Warcraft: Forever, a third permanent version of its MMORPG that will exist alongside modern World of Warcraft and WoW Classic. Launching globally on November 4, 2026, Forever takes the original Azeroth and builds an entirely new future around its level 60 foundation, adding more than 1,000 new quests, new regions, 9 dungeons, 2 raids, a new playable race, additional class combinations, new progression systems, and content designed to expand the world for years without repeating the traditional expansion cycle.

Access to World of Warcraft: Forever will be included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time, while the beta begins September 17 and runs through October 21 for eligible players. Blizzard positions Forever as neither a temporary season nor another version of Classic. It is intended to become a permanent branch of World of Warcraft built around the design philosophy that made the original game distinctive, while continuing into stories and locations that Vanilla WoW never explored.

Forever takes place after the events of Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom but before Molten Core. Players return to the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor and progress from level 1 to 60, but Blizzard has emphasized that reaching maximum level is not intended to invalidate the rest of the world. Leveling, exploration, dungeon groups, professions, social interactions, and smaller regional stories are being treated as core parts of progression rather than obstacles players are expected to rush through. There will be no flying mounts and no level scaling, keeping geography, enemy levels, and travel meaningful throughout Azeroth.

The world itself receives substantial new content. Mount Hyjal becomes an explorable region dealing with the aftermath of Archimonde's defeat, while Shen'dralas expands the history surrounding Eldre'Thalas, Dire Maul, and the centaur tribes. Riverglades introduces a large frontier region filled with rivers, settlements, trade routes, rival groups, and more than 150 quests spanning much of the level 30 to 40 experience. Zephras Isle serves as a new level 1 to 12 starting area connected to the Skyborne, a completely new playable race inspired by elemental and arcane traditions.

The Skyborne can join either faction. Horde Skyborne follow stronger elemental traditions and gain access to Shaman, while Alliance Skyborne pursue their arcane heritage and can become Mages. Both factions can also create Skyborne Warriors, Hunters, Rogues, and Druids, with Blizzard creating unique Druid forms, racial abilities, voices, customization options, and animations for the race.

Blizzard is also adding 9 completely new dungeons spread throughout the original continents. These include the Hall of Thanes beneath Ironforge, the Ruins of Lordaeron, City of Dalaran, Blackmaw Hold, Drowned City, Krol'dok Stronghold, Alcaz Prison, Shaper's Terrace, and a mysterious excavation site above Whelgar's Excavation. Several of these locations are based on areas, gates, ruins, and unexplored spaces that have existed in Warcraft lore or Vanilla Azeroth for decades without becoming complete playable destinations.

Endgame begins with Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit. Barrow Deeps is designed as a maximum level 10 player raid beneath the Night Elf barrow dens, while Hyjal Summit becomes a 20 player raid built around one of Warcraft's most important historical locations. Both introduce new tier equipment and a Legendary reward that Blizzard has not yet fully revealed. The first new raids unlock on December 9, with additional raids, dungeons, PvP content, world activities, quests, Hardcore support, and a revamped iconic raid planned through future updates.

PvP receives the Darkspear Islands, a new 15 vs 15 Battleground off Kalimdor. Blizzard is combining strategic control points with flag capture and defense mechanics while keeping the broader focus on conflict occurring naturally throughout the world rather than separating every activity into isolated matchmaking systems.

Forever also introduces Camping, allowing players to construct campsites throughout outdoor Azeroth. Other adventurers can stop at these locations, contribute through professions, craft, and receive shared campsite bonuses. Blizzard is deliberately using the system to create natural points where strangers may stop and interact instead of automatically grouping players through menus.

A separate Legacy progression system rewards players who repeatedly level alternate characters, while Transmog becomes optional rather than mandatory. Players can also choose between modern and Classic visual presets, switch between high definition and standard definition character models, use restored Classic animations with the newer models, and play through official gamepad support. Environmental rendering has also been improved with flowing rivers, volumetric fog, stronger lighting, moonlight, and terrain shadows while maintaining the original Warcraft visual style.

The November 4 release arrives only weeks after Blizzard expanded the Warcraft timeline through its new Forsaken Kingdom campaign. This effectively gives Blizzard a narrative bridge from Warcraft III directly into its alternate interpretation of early World of Warcraft, rather than simply recreating the exact content progression from 2004.

Blizzard also used BlizzCon 2026 to reveal major developments for modern World of Warcraft. Midnight is preparing Talebound, a new PvE action RPG experience where players enter dark stories controlled by a mysterious Storyteller. The official Talebound Story Trailer introduces the mode's darker direction, while Blizzard confirmed that it can be played solo or cooperatively and features its own classes, progression, upgrades, and repeated runs that feed cosmetic rewards back into World of Warcraft.

Midnight will then move toward Eclipse, its next major content update and the final confrontation with Xal'atath before The Last Titan. The Eclipse Reveal Trailer shows the conflict moving into the Worldcore beneath Azeroth as Xal'atath approaches her ultimate objective. Blizzard says Eclipse will directly set up The Last Titan, the final chapter of the Worldsoul Saga, which is planned for 2027.

The broader World of Warcraft: Midnight What’s Next Panel also confirmed Wrath of the Lich King Remix, new Housing features, expanded Transmog rules, additional PvP progression, and the Calibration Chamber for testing rotations with raid buffs and cooldown resets. The announcement substantially expands the roadmap Blizzard first outlined when it detailed Midnight's 2026 content strategy.

Blizzard is therefore moving into an unusual position where 3 versions of World of Warcraft are being developed simultaneously. Modern WoW continues the Worldsoul Saga, Classic preserves and revisits historical versions of the MMORPG, while Forever creates a separate timeline where the original Azeroth can continue expanding without abandoning level 60 or following the same history that produced The Burning Crusade and later expansions.

World of Warcraft: Forever is essentially Blizzard finally committing to the idea players have called Classic Plus for years, but the scale is considerably larger than another experimental season.

Keeping Azeroth at level 60 may be its most important decision. Traditional expansions eventually make previous zones, equipment, raids, and progression irrelevant. Forever instead gives Blizzard an opportunity to expand horizontally, adding new regions and challenges without automatically replacing everything players earned before them.

The more than 1,000 new quests, 9 dungeons, new raids, Skyborne race, Camping, Legacy progression, and unfinished Vanilla locations suggest Blizzard understands that the appeal of original WoW was never simply its combat or old graphics. It was the feeling that Azeroth itself mattered.

Supporting modern WoW, Classic, and Forever simultaneously will be difficult, particularly when all 3 appeal to overlapping communities, but it also gives Blizzard a way to stop forcing very different types of players into a single version of the game. After more than 20 years, World of Warcraft is no longer moving down one road.

Would you make World of Warcraft: Forever your main version of WoW, or are you staying with modern WoW or Classic?
