Warner Bros. Officially Confirms a Second Hogwarts Legacy Game

Warner Bros. Discovery has officially confirmed that a second Hogwarts Legacy game is part of its upcoming gaming pipeline, giving the sequel its first direct corporate acknowledgement after years of expectations surrounding the future of the Wizarding World RPG. The confirmation appeared in the company’s 2Q26 Shareholder Letter, published on August 6, 2026, where Warner Bros. Discovery outlined its renewed strategy for the Games division.

Warner Bros. said its gaming strategy is now centered around 4 franchises valued at more than 1 billion dollars, with fewer projects receiving more focused investment. Discussing the future pipeline, the company specifically included the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy among the games expected to contribute more meaningfully to the profitability of its Studios business.

The announcement comes after the enormous commercial performance of the original Hogwarts Legacy, developed by Avalanche Software and released beginning in 2023. Warner Bros. Games announced in December 2025 that the title had surpassed 40 million units sold worldwide, establishing it as one of the company’s most commercially important gaming properties and making another major entry increasingly inevitable.

Warner Bros. has not revealed the official title, release window, platforms, gameplay systems, story, or other development details for the second game. The shareholder letter also does not identify which studio is leading development, meaning Avalanche Software should not yet be treated as officially confirmed for the sequel based solely on this announcement. What is now confirmed is that another Hogwarts Legacy installment exists within Warner Bros. Discovery’s future games pipeline.

The project also fits Warner Bros. Games’ broader push toward established franchises with proven global audiences. That direction is already visible elsewhere in the publisher’s portfolio, with NetherRealm confirming that it is pursuing another Mortal Kombat game, reinforcing the company’s strategy of concentrating development around its strongest gaming properties.

Hogwarts Legacy becoming a long term franchise was always the most likely outcome after reaching 40 million sales, but Warner Bros. Discovery putting the second installment directly into a shareholder communication changes its status from expectation to corporate confirmation. The bigger question is what Warner Bros. and its development teams do with that success. A sequel has an opportunity to expand deeper RPG systems, meaningful player choices, companion interactions, exploration, and consequences for how players use magic rather than simply delivering a larger version of the original open world formula.

What would you most like to see improved in the second Hogwarts Legacy game: deeper RPG mechanics, a stronger morality system, more locations, better companion systems, or something completely different?
