VANRAN Delayed to Early 2027 as New Trailer Reveals Giant Climbing Combat

South Korean independent developer BECUZUS has confirmed that its upcoming dark fantasy action RPG, VANRAN, has been delayed from December 2026 to early 2027. The revised release window was announced during the October 20 ID@Xbox and IGN Showcase, accompanied by a new gameplay trailer highlighting brutal sword combat, supernatural enemies and massive boss encounters that allow players to climb gigantic creatures during battle.

VANRAN is a third person action RPG built around a distinctive Chain system that integrates movement, exploration and combat. Rather than relying exclusively on traditional attacks and dodging, players are encouraged to maintain offensive momentum through active parrying, guard breaks and fluid transitions between abilities. Its parry system allows players to redirect an opponent's attack while maintaining mobility, creating opportunities for aggressive counterattacks and positioning.

One of the game's most ambitious features involves enormous creatures known as Govu, which introduce vertical combat encounters reminiscent of Shadow of the Colossus and Dragon's Dogma. Players must climb these massive enemies, identify vulnerable areas and execute attacks across multiple stages of combat. According to the official Steam description, these encounters are designed around combining environmental movement with precise combat mechanics, potentially distinguishing VANRAN from more traditional Soulslike experiences.

The narrative follows Caleb, a warrior who defended the Northern Frontier for 100 years before rebelling against the royalty he once served. Betrayed by his former comrades and forced into the abyss, Caleb becomes a human slave trapped within the Demon Realm. Armed with a sealed blade, he begins another rebellion while confronting the conflicting motivations of vengeance and salvation. BECUZUS promises a story influenced by classical mythology, including Dante's Divine Comedy, with player decisions affecting the progression and eventual outcome of the narrative.

The developer also plans to introduce enemies capable of coordinating attacks, alongside adjustable difficulty options intended to accommodate newcomers without sacrificing the challenge expected by experienced action RPG players. These mechanics position VANRAN among an expanding selection of Korean fantasy RPGs, including The Relic: First Guardian, where distinctive combat systems and demanding boss encounters have become important elements of the genre.

VANRAN PC System Requirements

Despite its detailed environments and enormous enemies, VANRAN currently lists relatively accessible PC hardware requirements.

Specification Minimum Recommended
Operating System Windows 10 64 bit Windows 10 64 bit
Memory 12 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
GPU NVIDIA GTX 1060 NVIDIA RTX 2070
DirectX Version 11 Version 12
Storage 50 GB 50 GB

Specifications are taken from the official Steam listing and may change before release. Target resolutions and frame rates have not been specified.

VANRAN is scheduled to launch on PC through Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The revised release window was also confirmed in the official Xbox showcase recap, although BECUZUS has not announced an exact release date or provided a detailed explanation for the postponement.

VANRAN has the potential to distinguish itself in the increasingly competitive Soulslike genre by combining fluid melee combat with large scale encounters that emphasize vertical movement. The ability to climb bosses introduces an additional strategic dimension, encouraging players to approach combat through positioning and environmental awareness rather than relying entirely on traditional attack patterns.

However, the most important challenge for BECUZUS will be executing these mechanics consistently. Giant boss encounters require reliable camera behavior, precise collision detection and responsive character controls to feel rewarding rather than frustrating. The additional development time could prove valuable for refining these systems, especially for an independent studio pursuing such ambitious gameplay.

Does VANRAN's combination of Soulslike combat and giant climbing mechanics make it a game worth watching, or would you prefer developers to focus on more traditional boss encounters?
