Ubisoft Is Reportedly Remaking the Original 2007 Assassin’s Creed

Ubisoft may be preparing another major Assassin’s Creed remake, and this time, the focus could be the game that started the entire franchise. According to known Assassin’s Creed leaker j0nathan, the original 2007 Assassin’s Creed is getting a full remake. The claim was shared through j0nathan on X, where the leaker said they have known about the project since 2023. No additional details were provided, so there is currently no confirmed release window, platform list, engine information, or development studio attached to the rumored remake.

The report arrives as Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced continues to dominate remake discussions around the franchise. Black Flag has been one of Ubisoft’s worst kept secrets for years due to repeated leaks, but if the original Assassin’s Creed remake is real, it could become an even bigger nostalgia play for the series.

The first Assassin’s Creed launched in 2007 and introduced players to Altaïr Ibn La Ahad, the Assassin Brotherhood, the Animus, and the conflict between Assassins and Templars. While later entries expanded the series with deeper combat, larger open worlds, naval exploration, RPG systems, and more cinematic storytelling, the original still has a distinct identity. It was slower, more restrictive, more focused on investigation, assassination planning, and the idea of being an assassin inside a historical city.

That structure also makes the remake interesting. The original game is remembered for its atmosphere and concept, but also criticized for repetitive mission design, limited variety, and rough pacing. A remake could modernize movement, stealth, combat, mission structure, and city design while preserving the tone that made the first game feel different from the rest of the franchise.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage already brought the series closer to its roots, but it was not a remake of the original formula. A full Assassin’s Creed 2007 remake could go further by rebuilding the experience around Altaïr, Masyaf, Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus with modern technology and improved design.

The timing also makes sense. 2027 will mark the 20th anniversary of Assassin’s Creed, making it the perfect year for Ubisoft to revisit the game that launched the franchise. If the remake is real, an anniversary release would be a strong way to celebrate the series while giving newer players a modern entry point into the origin of the Assassin Brotherhood.

For now, Ubisoft has not officially announced the project, so this should still be treated as a rumor. However, j0nathan has a history of accurate Assassin’s Creed information, which gives the claim more weight than a random leak.

If Ubisoft is now planning multiple remakes, including Black Flag Resynced and the original Assassin’s Creed, the company may be building a long term remake strategy around the franchise’s strongest legacy entries.

Would you want the original Assassin’s Creed remake to stay faithful to the 2007 formula, or should Ubisoft fully modernize it with new stealth, parkour, and mission systems?
