Creative Assembly Teases Alien: Isolation 2, Now Built in Unreal Engine 5

Creative Assembly and SEGA have quietly released a short teaser for Alien: Isolation 2, marking the long awaited return of one of survival horror’s most respected games. The 25 second video, titled “False Sense of Security,” was posted on the official Alien: Isolation YouTube channel and features the Creative Assembly and 20th Century Studios logos in near total darkness.

According to DSO Gaming, the sequel will be built in Unreal Engine 5 instead of Creative Assembly’s Cathode Engine, which powered the original 2014 game. The information comes from a Senior Development Manager job listing that states the project is “the sequel to ALIEN: ISOLATION being built in Unreal Engine 5.”

Alien: Isolation first launched in 2014 and has since become widely regarded as a survival horror classic. While its initial sales were below SEGA’s expectations, the game’s reputation grew over time thanks to its atmosphere, sound design, tension, and unpredictable Xenomorph AI.

A sequel was not in development as of 2019, but Creative Director Al Hope confirmed Alien: Isolation 2 in 2024 during the first game’s 10th anniversary. Since the game was still in early development at that time, a release is likely still at least a year away.

The switch to Unreal Engine 5 should give Creative Assembly access to modern lighting, rendering, and production tools. However, fans will be watching closely to see whether the sequel can preserve the original game’s slow tension, vulnerability, and horror focused design.

Two other Alien games are also in development: Alien Fireteam Elite 2, expected in Fall 2026, and Alien Deathstorm from Rebellion.

Will Alien: Isolation 2 deliver the same terrifying atmosphere as the original, or will Unreal Engine 5 change the feel of the sequel?
