The Witcher 3 DLC Rumors Gain New Momentum After CD Projekt RED Confirms an Unannounced Game Will Launch This Year

The long running rumors about new The Witcher 3 DLC have just become much harder to dismiss. In its latest annual report, CD Projekt RED officially confirmed that it plans to publish “one of the heretofore unannounced gaming projects” in the coming quarters of 2026, a statement that immediately adds real weight to the growing speculation around fresh content tied to Geralt’s world.

What makes this notable is not that CD Projekt RED confirmed The Witcher 3 DLC specifically, because it did not. What it confirmed is that an unannounced gaming project is scheduled to ship this year. That is the first official signal that something new and still undisclosed is actually planned for release in 2026, and it lines up closely with the recent wave of rumors pointing toward a new Witcher 3 expansion. At this stage, the DLC itself remains unconfirmed, but the report does narrow the field significantly and gives the rumor far more credibility than it had before.

The rest of the company’s FY2025 materials also help explain why this rumor has gained so much traction. CD Projekt said 2025 was marked by intensified development on its major ongoing projects, continued work on franchise tie in products, and the ongoing promotional push behind The Witcher 4. It also confirmed more than 513 million PLN in investment into future releases, mainly focused on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, while the studio itself grew from 707 to 933 developers over the past year. In other words, the company is scaling aggressively, but its biggest teams are still concentrated on much larger long term projects, which makes a smaller externally supported release this year feel plausible.

That is where the rumored Witcher 3 DLC theory fits best. Industry speculation has pointed to Fool’s Theory as the likely developer, with the content potentially serving as a narrative bridge between The Witcher 3 and The Witcher 4. Rumored settings have varied, with earlier chatter pointing to Zerrikania and more recent discussion leaning toward Kovir and Poviss. None of that has been officially confirmed by CD Projekt RED, so it should still be treated carefully. But after the latest report, the idea that something Witcher related is arriving this year feels far less like wishful thinking and much more like a realistic possibility.

At the same time, CD Projekt RED’s main production priorities remain very clear. The company’s FY2025 update says The Witcher 4 continues to be the primary focus, with nearly 500 developers now assigned to the project, while Cyberpunk 2 and Project Hadar also continue moving forward. That means whatever this unannounced 2026 release is, it is unlikely to be a full scale new AAA launch from the core internal team. A more targeted release such as DLC, a smaller project, or an externally supported title remains the most grounded reading of the situation.

For now, the key distinction is simple. CD Projekt RED has officially confirmed an unannounced gaming project for 2026. It has not officially confirmed new The Witcher 3 DLC. But in the current context, with the timing, the rumors, and the company’s broader release structure all lining up, this is the strongest evidence yet that the long discussed expansion may actually be real. If that is the case, then one of gaming’s most beloved RPGs could be preparing for an unexpected return before The Witcher 4 takes over the spotlight.

Do you think CD Projekt RED is really preparing one last Witcher 3 expansion, or will this unannounced 2026 project turn out to be something completely different?
