Crimson Desert Sells 2 Million Copies in Less Than 24 Hours as Pearl Abyss Promises Faster Improvements

Crimson Desert is off to a commercially powerful start. Pearl Abyss has confirmed that the game sold 2 million copies worldwide in less than 24 hours after launch, a major milestone for the long awaited open world action RPG and one that immediately shows the scale of player interest surrounding the studio’s biggest premium release to date. The sales update was shared through the game’s official X announcement, where Pearl Abyss also acknowledged the wide range of player responses and promised to act quickly on feedback. That 2 million figure has since been widely reported by gaming outlets and Korean business coverage.

In its statement, Pearl Abyss said it is “doing our utmost” to respond to player feedback, an important message given that Crimson Desert launched into a much more divided critical and community response than many expected. While the game has clearly converted hype into early sales, the reception has been more mixed on the review side, with critics praising the title’s scale, visual ambition, and combat spectacle while also raising concerns around controls, polish, and some of its broader gameplay systems. That disconnect between sales momentum and critical reaction has become one of the defining early storylines around the game’s launch.

Pearl Abyss is already trying to stabilize the launch window through active post launch support. Some of the more notable gameplay side changes are especially relevant because they target pain points players and reviewers raised immediately. Pearl Abyss added a tutorial quest at the start of Chapter 3 to better explain Abyss Gears, improved usability for systems including Housing mode, adjusted the Tenebrum fight in Chapter 4 so players do not need to replay the puzzle section after dying, and reduced frustration around enemy capture sequences by scaling QTE difficulty more gradually. The patch also tweaked boss balance, refined monster behavior, and made various skill and combat follow up improvements, all of which suggest the studio is trying to address both onboarding and combat flow in parallel.

At the same time, the launch build is still carrying a meaningful list of known issues. Pearl Abyss says players may still encounter frame rate drops in certain situations where the Abyss can be seen from below, quest progression tracking problems, settings not saving properly after restoration, a bug that can leave the character stuck to a tree after taking damage, and a major issue affecting FSR4 in rainy environments where rain can disappear or the image becomes blurry or distorted. The studio also confirmed it is investigating a problem preventing the game from launching correctly on Xbox ROG Ally and Xbox PC, along with an issue that is blocking some Steam preorder customers from claiming their preorder bonus and deluxe pack items.

From a market perspective, the launch remains complicated. Strong first day sales show that player curiosity and prelaunch hype were real, but that success comes just after Pearl Abyss suffered a sharp stock selloff tied to softer than expected review sentiment. Earlier reporting around the launch window showed investors reacting negatively when the game’s review profile landed below the very high expectations built up around it. The strong sales performance now gives Pearl Abyss a clearer path to commercial recovery, but whether that translates into broader confidence will likely depend on how quickly the studio can improve the overall player experience in the weeks ahead.
