The Rogue Prince of Persia Surprise-Launches on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Game Pass

Ubisoft and developer Evil Empire have pulled off a major Gamescom 2025 surprise by shadow-dropping The Rogue Prince of Persia on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S today. The game is also immediately available on Xbox Game Pass, giving subscribers instant access.

From Early Access to Full Launch

While the release feels like a surprise, Ubisoft had already confirmed an “August 2025” launch window back in June, so fans were anticipating news during Gamescom. Still, the official announcement during Xbox’s Gamescom 2025 livestream caught audiences off guard, giving players the chance to download and play right away.

The game originally entered Early Access in May 2024, and over the past year has evolved significantly with new content, refinements, and balance updates. Even at its early stages, it stood out as an impressive 2D roguelite action game—and its development pedigree only heightened expectations.

From the Team Behind Dead Cells

The Rogue Prince of Persia was developed by Evil Empire, the team that previously worked on the acclaimed indie hit Dead Cells. That experience is evident in the game’s tight controls, fast-paced action, and replayability—features that make it a natural fit for fans of roguelite platformers.

Now with its full 1.0 release, The Rogue Prince of Persia stands as Ubisoft’s latest major addition to the beloved franchise, offering both longtime Prince of Persia fans and roguelite enthusiasts a new challenge to dive into.

Do you think The Rogue Prince of Persia can live up to the legacy of Dead Cells and the classic Prince of Persia series at the same time?
