StarCraft Website Glitches Reveal Hidden 2575 ARG Ahead of BlizzCon 2026
Blizzard appears to have quietly started a StarCraft alternate reality game ahead of BlizzCon 2026, with intentional glitches appearing across the official StarCraft website and hidden transmissions buried inside the page revealing a mysterious story set in 2575.
Fans inspecting the website uncovered at least 8 distinct messages containing military transmissions, system logs, medical records, security requests, and cargo information. The material is dated primarily around August 2575, placing the apparent storyline roughly 67 years after the 2508 conclusion of StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void.
The central location is the Roxara Lunar Mining Complex, where Terran military unit Theta Squadron has been ordered to deploy. One transmission states that a freighter will arrive before the squadron carrying equipment and crates considered critical to undisclosed research. The shipment includes electronics, supplies, military hardware, and heavily redacted cargo, while the messages repeatedly emphasize strict handling and security requirements.
The situation becomes considerably darker through another hidden system log. The mining complex reports 0 registered occupants while its sensors detect 14 movement signatures inside the facility. Additional medical records show monitored human subjects, while compromised credentials and restricted database searches reference a classified operation known as Special Order 176.
The messages establish the framework of a potential containment or research incident, although Blizzard has not explained what happened at Roxara or what the unexplained movement signatures represent. The horror influenced presentation immediately raises obvious associations with the Zerg, biological experimentation, and abandoned facility scenarios, but none of those interpretations have been officially confirmed.
Roxara itself is not completely new to StarCraft lore. The planet previously appeared in StarCraft: Frontline, including the story Fear the Reaper, giving Blizzard an existing location to build upon rather than introducing an entirely disconnected setting. The ARG appears to be using that older universe material as the foundation for a story taking place decades later.
The timing is particularly difficult to ignore. BlizzCon 2026 begins September 12 at the Anaheim Convention Center, only days after the website transformation appeared. Blizzard's official BlizzCon schedule also contains a 1 hour opening on the Main Stage between World of Warcraft: What's Next and the Diablo Developer Update. Blizzard has not identified that gap as a StarCraft presentation, so it should not yet be treated as confirmation of a surprise panel.
Multiple StarCraft projects have already been surrounded by reports and rumors. Blizzard has previously been reported to have an internally developed StarCraft shooter associated with former Far Cry executive producer Dan Hay, while separate reporting has connected Nexon with potential future development of the franchise. Recent reports surrounding Nexon's StarCraft negotiations have added another possible direction, although there is currently no confirmed connection between that project and this ARG.
The darker military setting has also revived comparisons with StarCraft: Ghost, Blizzard's cancelled action game built around Terran ghost operative Nova. The Roxara setting and classified operation theme naturally support those comparisons, but there is currently no evidence that Blizzard is reviving Ghost specifically.
What can be established is considerably simpler. Blizzard's StarCraft website is deliberately presenting hidden narrative material set in 2575, Theta Squadron is heading toward a compromised mining complex, classified research is involved, and something appears to be moving inside a facility that officially contains nobody. With BlizzCon only days away, the campaign strongly suggests that Blizzard wants players paying attention to StarCraft again.
The most interesting part of this ARG is not whether it proves StarCraft 3, a shooter, or a revived StarCraft: Ghost. It is that Blizzard is building a new narrative thread rather than simply teasing the franchise through anniversary artwork or nostalgic references.
Jumping 67 years beyond Legacy of the Void gives Blizzard substantial freedom to change the political landscape, introduce new characters, and tell stories without being constrained by every unresolved element of the original trilogy. The abandoned facility and classified military research setup would also translate naturally into a more character focused StarCraft experience if Blizzard is preparing something outside traditional real time strategy.
For now, the ARG is evidence that something new is being communicated through StarCraft. What that becomes should remain an open question until Blizzard makes the next move.
What do you think Blizzard is teasing with the StarCraft 2575 ARG: a new shooter, StarCraft 3, a spiritual revival of StarCraft: Ghost, or something completely different?
