Slay the Spire 2 Opens Big in Early Access With Estimated 4.6M Copies Sold and $92M in Revenue
Slay the Spire 2 is shaping up to be one of the most explosive indie launches in recent years. According to a new report from Alinea Analytics newsletter, the deckbuilding sequel had an estimated 4.6 million copies sold on Steam by March 19, 2026, generating roughly $92 million in revenue for Mega Crit at its $25 price point. Alinea described the performance as one of the best indie Steam launches of all time, putting the game in the same conversation as some of the platform’s biggest breakout hits.
That momentum is even more impressive when placed next to the game’s official launch timing. Slay the Spire 2 entered Early Access on March 5, 2026, meaning it reached those estimates in just about two weeks. On Steam, the game is listed as an Early Access strategy title developed and published by Mega Crit, with the studio also noting that the price is expected to increase after Early Access ends.

The early player response on Valve’s platform also shows just how massive the launch window was. SteamDB reports that Slay the Spire 2 reached an all time peak of 574,638 concurrent players on March 8, 2026, only 3 days after release. That is an extraordinary figure for a card based roguelike, and it immediately placed the sequel among the biggest PC launches of the year. Steam’s own store page currently lists the title with an “Overwhelmingly Positive” English review rating, with 95% of 32,221 user reviews marked positive at the time of capture.
What stands out here is not only the sales curve, but the staying power. Alinea’s report says player engagement has remained very strong after launch, with around half of players putting in at least 20 hours, 14% reaching 50 hours, and 1% already crossing the 100 hour mark. For any game, that is a remarkable retention profile this early. For an Early Access release in a highly competitive indie market, it is a serious signal that Mega Crit has not only launched a hit, but delivered a sequel players are deeply committing to.
From an industry perspective, this is another reminder that smaller scale titles continue to punch far above their weight when they deliver strong design, replayability, and community momentum. Slay the Spire 2 is still early in its journey, with Mega Crit saying the game will remain in Early Access for roughly 1 to 2 years while more content, balance changes, and a true ending are added. Even so, the sequel has already established itself as one of 2026’s biggest success stories, and it now has a real chance to remain part of the game of the year conversation as the year moves forward.
Did you expect Slay the Spire 2 to open this big, and do you think it can hold this momentum all the way through Early Access?
