Slay the Spire 2 Early Access Delayed to March 2026

Mega Crit has officially delayed the Early Access launch of Slay the Spire 2, moving its release window outside of 2025 and into a secret Thursday in March 2026. The update came via the studio’s September Neowsletter, where the developers explained the reasoning behind the decision.

Originally announced in April 2024 with a 2025 Early Access target, the sequel to the acclaimed deckbuilding roguelike will now arrive a few months later than expected. Mega Crit admitted the decision was made after “a lot of internal discussion,” citing multiple factors.

“We know this isn't the news anyone wanted to hear (ourselves included, we're dying to get this into your hands!). Originally, we were shooting for late 2025, but turns out we were wrong. We need some more time.”

The team emphasized there was no single dramatic reason for the delay. Instead, it came down to several elements: personal life matters (all team members are reportedly fine), the addition of too many “wouldn’t it be cool if…” features, and the need for more polish to meet Mega Crit’s high standards.

In the accompanying FAQ, the studio also addressed potential speculation that the delay was to avoid launching near Hollow Knight: Silksong, which recently became one of 2025’s biggest indie releases. Mega Crit clarified that this was not the case, reiterating that the delay was purely to ensure Slay the Spire 2 reaches the level of quality fans expect.

While the team didn’t give a specific date, they teased that the Early Access release will happen on a Thursday in March 2026. That narrows it down to March 5, 12, 19, or 26, 2026, with the exact date to be confirmed closer to launch.

Slay the Spire 2 will expand on its predecessor with new characters, features, and content, while retaining the blend of roguelike progression and card-based strategy that made the original a modern classic.

Are you willing to wait until March 2026 for a more polished Slay the Spire 2, or were you hoping to dive in later this year?
