Skyblivion Enters Final Stretch With 2025 Release Still On Track
The ambitious Skyblivion project, a full-conversion mod aiming to remake The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in the Skyrim engine, has officially entered its final phase. In the sixth development diary titled “The Final Stretch Toward Release”, project lead Rebelzize reaffirmed the team's commitment to releasing Skyblivion in 2025, a promise made nearly two years ago and one that fans have eagerly awaited.
While the end is in sight, the team continues to seek volunteer modders to help bring the project across the finish line. Specifically, they're in need of skilled individuals experienced in scripting, quest design, record editing, perk systems, NPC creation, level design, and 3D modeling—especially those adept at crafting clothing and plant models.
In this latest update, Rebelzize guided viewers through the Gold Coast, a region located on the western edge of Cyrodiil. The city of Anvil has been significantly reimagined, now structured around a central harbor basin and expanded with larger residential, commercial, and guild districts. Another standout reveal is Sutch, a town that was originally cut from Oblivion before release. In Skyblivion, Sutch has been restored as a decayed, bandit-occupied settlement featuring new lore elements, such as a ruined chapel to Kynareth, and a richer, darker atmosphere that integrates seamlessly into the expanded world.
These enhancements highlight Skyblivion’s major point of differentiation from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which focused primarily on visual upgrades. In contrast, Skyblivion is a complete reconstruction, offering newly designed areas, deeper environmental storytelling, and refined gameplay systems. This overhaul promises an experience that both honors the original game and delivers fresh content to veteran players.
The developer diary also dives into the enhanced Oblivion realms, notably the Deadlands, which now feature two biomes. The Burn returns from the original game, while the newly introduced The Sever draws inspiration from The Elder Scrolls Online. The Sever offers distinct environmental hazards and enemies, enhancing gameplay diversity and difficulty. Additionally, the team has increased the number of randomized Oblivion worlds from seven to eleven, adding further replayability and exploration depth.
The next development diary is set to focus on the Imperial City, the massive capital of both Cyrodiil and the Empire, a region highly anticipated by fans for its complexity and iconic status.
With momentum building and the finish line in sight, Skyblivion is shaping up to be not just a tribute to Oblivion, but a transformative reimagining that stands tall among modern RPGs.
