SEGA’s New Virtua Fighter Project Gets New Training Stage Trailer at EVO 2025 – Plus New Details on Tekken 8, Invincible VS, and Marvel Tokon

SEGA took the EVO 2025 stage to offer fans a fresh, albeit brief, look at its highly anticipated New Virtua Fighter Project. The newly released training stage gameplay trailer, clocking in at just under a minute, gives us a taste of what’s to come from the iconic fighting franchise’s next entry. Though short, the footage offers a satisfying glimpse of fluid animations, powerful strikes, and a clean visual aesthetic that retains the series’ classic identity while embracing modern fidelity.

The New Virtua Fighter Project, officially acknowledged in November 2024 and later confirmed during The Game Awards 2024, is currently in development by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the team behind the acclaimed Yakuza / Like a Dragon franchise. A pre-development showcase was revealed earlier this year at CES 2025 as part of NVIDIA’s keynote presentation, giving fans early insight into the direction the project is taking.

Since then, SEGA also launched Virtua Fighter 5: R.E.V.O. on Steam, complete with cross-play functionality for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, a timely refresh for longtime fans to enjoy as they wait for the franchise’s next evolution. Although no release window for the new Virtua Fighter entry has been announced, the latest trailer affirms that development is progressing steadily.

EVO 2025 brought more than just Virtua Fighter news. Here are other key announcements from the world’s biggest fighting game tournament:

Tekken 8 Adds Armor King and New Fighter Miary Zo

Bandai Namco confirmed that fan-favorite Armor King will join Tekken 8 as a DLC fighter. He will be available to Season 2 Character Pass holders on October 13, and for all players on October 16. The publisher also revealed a brand-new fighter, Miary Zo, a warrior hailing from Madagascar, who is set to launch as part of the upcoming winter DLC. The update will include a new stage, Baobab Horizon, inspired by Madagascar’s lush and unique terrain.

Invincible VS Confirms Omni-Man as a Playable Fighter

Quarter Up's upcoming fighting game Invincible VS, based on Robert Kirkman’s hit comic and Prime Video series Invincible, has confirmed that Omni-Man will be a playable character. Given his central role in the IP, the inclusion is both expected and exciting for fans. The game is currently targeting a 2026 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls Closed Beta Coming in September

Arc System Works announced a closed beta test for the upcoming MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls on PlayStation 5, set for September 5–7, 2025. Registration is now open via the official PlayStation website. The beta will include six playable characters, online matchmaking, a training mode, and spectator functionality.

As fighting game fans gear up for a packed slate of releases across beloved franchises and exciting new IPs, EVO 2025 has proven once again to be the epicenter of fighting game hype. SEGA’s renewed push into the Virtua Fighter franchise, Bandai Namco’s continued expansion of Tekken 8, and the fresh entries from Arc System Works and Quarter Up all point to a very competitive, diverse, and exciting future for the genre.
