Samsung Finally Launches 9100 PRO Gen5 SSDs In 8TB Flavors: Up To 14.8 GB/s Speeds, Priced at $999

Samsung has officially expanded its 9100 PRO Gen5 SSD lineup with its highest-capacity variant yet: a massive 8TB model priced at $999 USD. This marks a milestone for Samsung’s consumer SSD portfolio, as the company delivers ultra-high-capacity PCIe 5.0 storage for gamers, creators, and professionals demanding uncompromising performance. Expanded Lineup With Two New 8TB Models

Samsung introduced two versions of the new flagship storage device:

  • 9100 PRO 8TB

  • 9100 PRO 8TB with Heatsink

The heatsink edition enhances thermal performance and sustained peak speeds, ensuring stable long-term operation, particularly for gaming consoles and desktops under heavy load. This addition follows the successful release of the 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB models earlier this year, further cementing Samsung’s dominance in high-performance consumer SSDs.

Performance That Redefines PCIe 5.0 Storage

The 9100 PRO 8TB sets a new bar for consumer-grade SSDs:

  • Sequential Read Speeds: Up to 14,800 MB/s

  • Sequential Write Speeds: Up to 13,400 MB/s

  • Random Read Speeds: Up to 2,200K IOPS

  • Random Write Speeds: Up to 2,600K IOPS

Compared to the previous 990 PRO Gen4, the new drive delivers nearly double the sequential speeds, representing a 99% performance uplift. Samsung also improved power efficiency by 49%, supported by advanced thermal management and heatsink options.

Storage Powerhouse for Games and Workloads

The 8TB capacity makes it possible to install approximately 80 modern PC titles, based on Steam’s 2024 “Best of New Releases” average file size of 90.6GB. Beyond gaming, its random IOPS capabilities make it ideal for video editing, 3D rendering, AI workloads, and multitasking productivity.

Compatibility and Thermal Design

The new SSD models comply with the PCI-SIG D8 standard and are built with heatsink solutions tailored for different devices:

  • 8.8 mmT heatsink for 1TB–4TB models.

  • 11.25 mmT heatsink for the 8TB model, ensuring compatibility with PlayStation 5 systems while delivering stable performance.

Broad device compatibility extends across desktops, laptops, and consoles, making the 9100 PRO one of the most versatile PCIe 5.0 drives on the market.

Availability

The Samsung 9100 PRO 8TB will be available from mid-September 2025. Pricing is set at $999 for the standard M.2 version, while the heatsink model will cost $1019 USD. The smaller capacity 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB models are already available through Samsung.com and authorized retailers.

With the introduction of the 8TB capacity, Samsung solidifies its position at the forefront of next-generation PCIe 5.0 SSDs, offering unmatched speed, thermal efficiency, and scalability for both everyday users and hardcore enthusiasts.

Would you consider investing in an 8TB Gen5 SSD for your gaming setup or professional workstation at $999, or is this capacity overkill for your needs right now?
