Remedy Stays Silent on Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake as Rockstar Controls Its Promotion
Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that the Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake remains in full production, but fans hoping for a larger development update may have to continue waiting. During Remedy's latest financial presentation, the studio declined to answer several questions about the project because Rockstar Games controls the publishing side and therefore has authority over when new information is released.
According to RockstarINTEL, Remedy investor relations manager Aapo Kilpinen addressed the volume of questions surrounding the remake during the company's Q2 presentation.
"Rockstar Games is handling the publishing side, so we can’t comment on those questions."

Remedy previously confirmed that the project entered full production during Q2 2024, with development focused on creating an early playable version of the complete experience while establishing its key gameplay features. The remake combines Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne into a single title built using Remedy's Northlight engine for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.
Under the original agreement, Rockstar Games is financing development with a budget comparable to a typical Remedy AAA production while also handling publishing. Remedy can begin earning royalties after Rockstar recovers development, marketing, distribution, and publishing expenses.
The continuing silence does not necessarily indicate development problems. Suggests a potential 2027 release if production continues smoothly, although Remedy and Rockstar have announced neither a release date nor a launch window. With GTA VI currently commanding Rockstar's marketing attention, the publisher could also be intentionally keeping Max Payne outside the spotlight until it is ready for a shorter promotional campaign.
Remedy previously confirmed through its Q1 2026 business update that Max Payne remains one of its 3 active development projects alongside CONTROL Resonant and an unannounced title.
The lack of information around Max Payne is frustrating, but Rockstar controlling the marketing explains why Remedy has become increasingly careful about discussing the project. Full production has continued since 2024, and there is currently no confirmed indication that development has encountered trouble.
Rockstar traditionally does not need extremely long marketing campaigns to generate attention. If the remake is targeting 2027, a major reveal could arrive relatively close to launch while allowing GTA VI to dominate the publisher's immediate marketing strategy.
Would you prefer Rockstar to reveal Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake soon, or wait until the project is close enough to launch that the marketing campaign can move quickly?
