Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake Is Rumored to Release in January 2026
The long awaited remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time may finally arrive sooner than expected. New reports circulating online suggest that Ubisoft is preparing to release the updated version of the beloved classic as early as mid January 2026 on PC and consoles.
The information comes from well known industry insider Tom Henderson, who discussed the project during the latest episode of the Insider Gaming podcast. Henderson, who has accurately leaked numerous Ubisoft details in the past, stated that the remake is currently targeting a mid January launch window.
When asked about when the game will be shown again publicly, Henderson could not offer a confirmed date. What he did share is that Ubisoft is internally planning a very short marketing cycle of approximately one month before release. If this is the case, a new appearance during next week’s The Game Awards would be the most logical timing for maximum visibility. However, Henderson added that there is no concrete evidence pointing toward a Game Awards reveal, leaving open the possibility that Ubisoft may opt for a simple trailer drop on YouTube in the near future.
The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake has endured a long and troubled development cycle. First announced in September 2020 with an initial release planned for early 2021, the project faced an indefinite delay in February 2021. Ubisoft later confirmed in 2022 that development had been rebooted entirely, with Ubisoft Montreal taking over the project. Montreal also created the original Sands of Time, raising hopes that the rebooted remake would stay true to the spirit of the classic.
Despite the change in leadership, updates on development progress remained scarce. It was only in November 2023 that Ubisoft confirmed the project had reached a significant milestone. The publisher then announced in May of this year that the game was officially targeting an early 2026 release window.
If the remake does arrive in January, it would mark the third Prince of Persia title released in just two years following a decade long hiatus for the franchise. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown revived the series with a two dimensional action adventure experience in January 2024, while The Rogue Prince of Persia expanded the formula with roguelike gameplay in August. The return of Sands of Time would give fans of the series a modernized version of one of the most influential action adventure titles ever created.
Do you think Ubisoft should reveal the remake at The Game Awards, or would a quieter YouTube trailer be enough for a game of this legacy
