Netflix’s Animated Splinter Cell TV Show Is the Only Return Sam Fisher Has on the Calendar, Amid No News of a New Game
Five years after it was first announced, Ubisoft and Netflix’s animated adaptation of the Splinter Cell series finally has a premiere date. Titled Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, the show will debut on October 14, 2025, marking the long-awaited return of Sam Fisher - though not in the form many fans were hoping for.
An Older Fisher, A New Agent
The trailer reveals an older Sam Fisher, donning his iconic three-lensed night vision goggles once again, this time voiced by Liev Schreiber rather than the fan-favorite Michael Ironside. He’s joined by a new Splinter Cell operative, Zinnia McKenna, voiced by Kirby Howell-Baptiste.
The story sees McKenna reaching out to Fisher due to a personal connection, pulling the veteran agent back into the fray. From there, a broader conspiracy unfolds, putting Fisher back in the action despite his age. While Deathwatch looks to provide a fresh narrative foundation for the franchise, it does little to address the bigger concern looming over longtime fans: the absence of a new Splinter Cell game.
Ubisoft had previously announced a remake of the original game, but there’s been no substantial update on its progress or release timeline. Meanwhile, the last mainline entry, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, launched all the way back in 2013. For a series that helped define stealth action, the wait has been excruciating.
With stealth-focused games being increasingly rare, many in the community see the franchise as overdue for a proper comeback. Until then, the animated series may serve as a temporary fix for fans hungry for more of Sam Fisher’s world.
Would you watch Splinter Cell: Deathwatch even without a new game on the horizon, or are you holding out until Ubisoft finally delivers on the remake or a new installment?
