NAND Prices Expected to Surge Up to 30% as AI Data Center Demand Soars

NAND-based products, including consumer SSDs, could face a sharp price increase in the coming weeks as major suppliers adjust to massive demand from AI data centers. According to DigiTimes and other supply chain reports, companies such as Western Digital, SanDisk, and Micron are preparing significant price hikes, with Micron expected to raise NAND prices by as much as 30 percent.

The surge in demand comes as global AI data centers expand capacity, requiring vast amounts of enterprise storage to handle large-scale training datasets for language models and other workloads. NAND-based enterprise SSDs are particularly in demand for high-performance storage, while HDDs continue to serve as cold storage for raw datasets.

The massive appetite for storage has caused NAND suppliers to pause issuing fresh quotes to customers, signaling a broad market adjustment that is likely to affect both enterprise and consumer products.

Supplier Pricing Adjustments

  • Western Digital recently announced changes to its NAND pricing structure.

  • SanDisk is expected to raise prices by up to 10 percent.

  • Micron is preparing hikes as high as 30 percent, though it has yet to formally notify customers.

While the immediate price spikes are tied to enterprise demand, the ripple effect is expected to reach consumer markets, meaning SSDs and other NAND-based storage products could soon see significant price jumps.

The timing is notable given that just last year, the NAND industry was struggling with oversupply and weak consumer demand, leading to a period of record-low prices. The turnaround reflects how quickly AI-driven infrastructure growth has reshaped market dynamics. Although HDDs do not use NAND chips, they are still expected to see some price influence due to their role in AI cold storage. However, the increases will not be as aggressive as those projected for SSDs.

Do you think rising NAND prices will slow down SSD adoption among gamers and consumers, or will demand remain steady despite the hikes?
