MercurySteam Brings Blades of Fire to Steam With Version 2.0, New Game Plus, DLSS 4, Steam Deck Support, and More

MercurySteam, the studio best known in recent years for Metroid Dread, is taking a major step in expanding Blades of Fire beyond its original PC exclusivity window. After launching on PC as an Epic Games Store exclusive, the 3D action adventure is officially heading to Steam on 5/14/2026, and it is not arriving as a simple storefront port. Instead, MercurySteam is positioning the Steam launch as Version 2.0, a meaningful upgrade that bundles new gameplay systems, quality of life improvements, and new technical capabilities aimed at both returning blacksmith warriors and first time players.

For anyone looking to preview the experience ahead of release, MercurySteam is also putting a playable demo live right now as part of the ramp up to Steam Next Fest, which is expected to kick off in roughly 2 weeks from the time of this writing. The studio is using that demo window as a discovery and feedback funnel, a smart move for a game built around forging depth, combat cadence, and progression tuning.

Blades of Fire drops players into the role of Aran de Lira, the last blacksmith capable of wielding and forging true steel, with a mission that is as personal as it is apocalyptic: kill the Queen and save humanity. The Steam arrival is significant because it removes the final barrier between the game and the largest PC discovery platform, while Version 2.0 acts as the upgrade narrative that gives the launch real reason to re engage.

Version 2.0 is built to deepen replayability and player expression, with a stack of additions that meaningfully expand the loop.

A new difficulty level called Titanium is designed for players who want a tougher test of both forging decisions and combat execution. Element transmutation is being added to let players change material types, which should open up more build flexibility and experimentation without forcing a full restart of progression plans.

There is also a new photo mode, which fits the game’s art direction and gear crafting fantasy, plus a New Game Plus mode that introduces new weapon parts and skins only available during New Game Plus runs. On top of that, a new boss revival mode will let players replay boss fights, which is an immediate win for mastery focused players and content creators who want repeatable set piece challenges.

And yes, in a move that is already winning points with the community, you can now pet the Ox.

On the technical front, Version 2.0 is equally ambitious. The update introduces NVIDIA DLSS 4 support, which should help players target higher performance headroom while maintaining visual clarity, especially in combat heavy scenes. Steam Deck support is also being added, expanding the portability story and aligning with the growing segment of PC players who want handheld native experiences without compromising on depth.

MercurySteam is also adding new achievements and full key remapping for keyboard and mouse controls, which is a practical quality of life upgrade that makes the game more accessible across different playstyles and control preferences.

For Steam buyers, the launch also includes an Adventure Pack that bundles the original soundtrack and an artbook. However, anyone who already owns the game on the Epic Games Store or on consoles will need to purchase the Adventure Pack separately if they want that bonus content. That split is worth flagging for collectors and completionists planning where to invest.

Blades of Fire arriving on Steam with a feature rich Version 2.0 is a strong example of how to turn a platform expansion into a second launch moment. MercurySteam is not only unlocking a larger audience, it is delivering a clear value proposition for players who already beat the game and want a reason to come back for another forge heavy run.

Are you planning to jump into Blades of Fire on Steam for the first time, or are you coming back for Version 2.0 to push Titanium difficulty and New Game Plus content?
