Nightdive Studios and id Software Shadow Drop Heretic+Hexen Remaster Collection on PC and Consoles

During QuakeCon 2025, id Software and Nightdive Studios surprised fans with the immediate release of Heretic+Hexen, a remastered collection of the two classic magic-based FPS titles originally developed by Raven Software in 1994 (Heretic) and 1995 (Hexen) using id Software’s legendary DOOM Engine.

The collection is available now on PC and all major console platforms, including Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Xbox Game Pass subscribers on both PC and consoles can also download the collection at no extra cost. While it will also be coming to NVIDIA’s GeForce Now cloud gaming service, a specific availability date has yet to be announced.

For long-time fans who already own the original digital versions, Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders, Hexen: Beyond Heretic, or Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel. Nightdive and id Software are offering a free upgrade to the remastered versions.

Newcomers will enjoy the original three games alongside two completely new episodes developed by Nightdive and id Software: Heretic: Faith Renewed and Hexen: Vestiges of Grandeur. These additions expand the lore and gameplay while preserving the atmosphere and style that defined the originals.

The remasters deliver modern enhancements including native 4K resolution and up to 120 FPS support, widescreen compatibility, mod support, rebalanced gameplay options, a robust suite of accessibility features, and a Vault section filled with early concept art and unused sprites from the original development, perfect for long-time fans and preservation enthusiasts alike.

Will you revisit Heretic and Hexen in their remastered form, or is this your first journey into these dark fantasy shooters?
