Grounded 2 Launches in Early Access on Xbox Series X|S and Steam, Adds Mounts, Omni-Tool, and Enhanced Exploration
Obsidian Entertainment has officially released Grounded 2 in Early Access, following its reveal during Xbox’s Summer Game Fest 2025 showcase. As of now, the game is playable on Xbox Series X|S via Game Preview, PC via Steam Early Access, and through Xbox Game Pass, allowing players to dive back into the miniature backyard world with new mechanics, enhanced traversal, and deeper survival systems.
In this sequel to the acclaimed survival game inspired by Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Obsidian has introduced sweeping changes. One of the most impactful upgrades is the new omni-tool, which replaces the need to carry multiple essential tools like shovels, hammers, and axes. This change alone dramatically improves inventory management, freeing up space and simplifying gameplay.
Another major addition is the inclusion of rideable mounts. Players can now raise either an ant or a spider companion from birth, both of which can carry additional supplies and significantly improve traversal speed across the expansive map. While only two mount types are available at launch, Obsidian has plans to expand the roster throughout Early Access.
To celebrate the launch, Xbox and Microsoft are hosting a unique sweepstakes featuring a giant Red Ant plush giveaway, designed to match the in-game creature. Lucky winners can even sit on it like their character would in the game. For more details on how to enter, visit the official announcement
With Grounded 2 still in development, Obsidian is inviting the community to offer feedback and help shape the game's future through iterative updates. The foundation is already promising, with improved mechanics, deeper immersion, and the same quirky charm that made the original a fan favorite. Whether the sequel can surpass its predecessor remains to be seen, but with continued development and community involvement, the backyard adventure is just getting started.
