Chrono Odyssey Devs Promise Massive Overhaul After Closed Beta Criticism, Improving Combat, Visuals, AI, and Exploration
Chrono Studio has announced sweeping changes for Chrono Odyssey following feedback from its first limited Closed Beta Test (CBT) on Steam. The South Korean developer acknowledged the game’s rough state, with performance hiccups, unbalanced gameplay, and general lack of polish. In response, Chrono Studio is overhauling nearly every core system, including combat responsiveness, class skills, enemy AI, environmental detail, and exploration mechanics as mention on the official update in Steam News
One of the biggest criticisms centered around the sluggish combat system. To address this, input responsiveness is being enhanced by improving client-server packet transmission and optimizing network performance. Hit reactions will occur more frequently with clearer knockback animations, sound cues, and camera effects, while crowd control durations are increasing to 2–4 seconds for better tactical follow-up. Damage feedback will be more pronounced, and weapon sweeping will be sped up with a shortened buffer window to increase combat fluidity.
The game’s skill system is undergoing a significant transformation. Each weapon will now support four distinct combat styles, with inter-weapon skill synergy introduced. A new progression feature called the Matrix will offer players diverse skill paths for each weapon and class, prompting a full rebalance of the class system. This change aims to make combat not only more engaging but also more personalized to each player’s style.
Monster AI is also being reworked. Enemies will react more intelligently to ranged attacks and avoid the awkward difficulty spikes noted during beta. The game world itself will also see major improvements. New visual details such as swamps, misty forests, flower fields, and dynamic grass systems are being added to enrich regional identity. An upgraded wind system will further enhance environmental immersion.
Exploration in Chrono Odyssey will be significantly more rewarding. The studio plans to increase content density and add POI-based gameplay with themed caves, gathering events, narrative encounters, and Dynamic Quests and Chain Quests. Some quests will even feature branching choices that can alter outcomes and progression paths, injecting RPG depth into the MMO structure. Completing these quests may unlock rare achievements and exclusive titles.
Beyond exploration and questing, Expedition Dungeons are also getting a facelift. Each run will now include randomized elements, meaning players may encounter different bosses, hidden treasure, or environmental hazards depending on their chosen path. Additional rewards for repeated runs are also planned to encourage replayability.
Chrono Studio is also overhauling the UI, crafting, social features, and in-game tutorials based on beta feedback. While the depth and scale of these revisions are commendable, it virtually guarantees that Chrono Odyssey won’t make its previously targeted 2025 release. The developer has not officially confirmed a delay, but further beta testing to validate these changes makes a 2026 launch far more likely.
Still, the studio’s willingness to listen, adjust, and significantly improve the game bodes well for its long-term success. For fans of large-scale MMORPGs, it may be worth the wait to see how Chrono Odyssey evolves into a more polished and engaging experience.
