Fable Reveals Order of the Hero Story Expansion as Premium Edition Details and PC Specs Surface

Following the release date reveal for Fable during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, Microsoft and Playground Games have opened pre orders for the long awaited RPG, giving players a clearer look at its editions, bonus content, and minimum PC system requirements. The biggest new detail is the confirmation of Fable: Order of the Hero, a story driven post launch expansion included with the Premium Edition.

Fable: Order of the Hero will arrive sometime after the base game launches. According to the description shared with the game’s pre order details, the expansion will focus on the mysteries of a sinister ancient cult hidden within the dangerous charm of Albion. Players will travel to a new region filled with danger, wonder, and rumors of forgotten power.

The premise sounds very fitting for Fable’s mix of fantasy, humor, morality, and strange social consequences. As players explore the new region, their actions will earn the admiration of the cultists, eventually raising them into the role of the cult’s newest and most remarkable celebrity overseer. From there, players will be able to guide rituals and shape the cult according to their own heroic ideals, whether virtuous, villainous, or simply eccentric.

That leadership role also comes with a darker question. If the cult is looking for a new Heroic leader, what happened to the previous one? It is a strong setup for a Fable expansion, especially because it gives Playground Games room to combine mystery, player choice, absurd Albion logic, and moral consequence in a focused story.

Order of the Hero is currently tied to the Premium Edition of Fable, which is priced at 99.99$. The Premium Edition also includes 5 days of early access, letting players begin their adventure before the standard release.

The Premium Edition Content Pack includes 2 cosmetic armor sets for the player’s Hero. The first is the refined Splendid Armor, while the second is the rugged Bastard Armor. Each armor set includes matching footwear, legs, and torso pieces. Players will also receive 3 of each in game Gift: Queen’s Bouquets, Bags of Offal, and Decadent Gold Leaf Bread. These items can be given to Albion’s living population to trigger admiration, disgust, or something romantically complicated.

The reward structure feels very Fable. Rather than offering only standard cosmetic bonuses, the included gifts seem designed to play into Albion’s reactive social systems, where the player’s interactions with townspeople can become charming, embarrassing, or completely ridiculous depending on the situation.

The newly listed PC requirements are also notable because they appear fairly modest by current standards, especially for a large fantasy RPG launching in 2027. The game requires Windows 10 22H2, 12GB of RAM, DirectX 12, an SSD, and 135GB of available storage space.

For processors, the minimum listed options are AMD Ryzen 5 2600, Intel Core i7 6850K, or Intel Core i5 10400. For graphics cards, the minimum listed options are AMD Radeon RX 6600, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, or Intel A580. While final performance targets have not been fully detailed, these requirements suggest Playground Games is aiming to keep Fable accessible across a reasonable range of PC hardware.

The 135GB storage requirement is still sizable, but not surprising for a modern open fantasy RPG with high production values, cinematic presentation, detailed environments, and broad platform support. The SSD requirement is also expected, especially as current generation game design continues to rely on faster storage for streaming assets and maintaining world detail.

Fable launches on February 23, 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. The game will also be available through Game Pass and will support Xbox Play Anywhere.

With its confirmed release date, Premium Edition details, post launch story expansion, early access option, and modest minimum PC requirements, Fable is becoming one of the most clearly defined RPG launches of early 2027. The Order of the Hero expansion also suggests Playground Games is already planning to extend Albion beyond the main campaign with new regions, new mysteries, and more opportunities for players to become either legendary, infamous, or completely bizarre.

Do you think Fable: Order of the Hero being tied to the Premium Edition makes the package more appealing, or would you rather buy the story expansion separately after launch?
