Elden Ring Mod Brings Nightreign Movement to the Lands Between
Elden Ring players on PC can now experience much of Elden Ring Nightreign's faster movement system inside the original game through a new community mod that adds Surge Sprint, wall jumps, ledge climbing, movement while using flasks, Spiritstream traversal on foot, and configurable fall protection.
The project was created by modder Neirox, who released an early version after seeing repeated community requests to bring Nightreign's expanded mobility into the 2022 RPG. The developer has shared a full Nightreign Movement demonstration, showing the Tarnished running, climbing, and navigating Elden Ring environments with movement normally reserved for Nightfarers.
Nightreign fundamentally changed traversal compared with the original Elden Ring. Bandai Namco's official Nightreign guide documents abilities including Surge Sprint, wall jumping, longer jumps while sprinting, and Spiritstream jumps. The mod adapts those ideas into Elden Ring rather than simply increasing movement speed.
According to Neirox, the implementation uses original Nightreign animation clips but required significant additional work inside Elden Ring. The movement animations had to be registered within Elden Ring's behavior graph, with custom transitions, animation events, sound timing, effects, and adjusted root motion. Custom scripts and a C++ DLL then handle functions such as ledge detection, wall jumps, Spiritstreams, and movement while drinking from flasks.
The result changes exploration considerably. Areas that normally encourage Torrent use can now be crossed quickly on foot, while Legacy Dungeons gain additional vertical movement options through wall jumps and ledge climbing.
Balance is configurable. Players can disable the enhanced movement during boss fights, which is enabled by default, and several options can be adjusted from Sites of Grace. Fall damage protection can also be configured rather than remaining permanently active.
Compatibility is already expanding. Neirox says the mod works with Seamless Co op and has added support for the Convergence and Elden Ring Reforged overhauls. The project remains an early release, however, so compatibility and movement behavior may continue changing.
The timing is interesting because Nightreign's faster traversal has increasingly influenced FromSoftware's broader design direction. The upcoming The Duskbloods also emphasizes more mobile characters and faster combat, suggesting the studio is continuing to experiment beyond the slower movement traditionally associated with its Souls games.
Nightreign Movement changes far more than how quickly players cross the map. Wall jumps, climbing, and faster sprinting fundamentally alter how Elden Ring's levels can be approached.
That also means it can disrupt the original balance, which makes the option to disable these mechanics during boss encounters important. For a second or third playthrough, however, this could make exploring the Lands Between feel surprisingly different without changing the world itself.
Would you want FromSoftware to bring Nightreign style movement into its next traditional single player RPG?
