Dying Light: The Beast Sells Over 1 Million Copies on Steam
According to the latest Alinea Analytics newsletter, Techland’s Dying Light: The Beast has surpassed one million copies sold on Steam and over 1.5 million across all platforms. This milestone follows Techland’s earlier claim that the game had already received over a million pre-orders before launch. However, that figure included Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition owners, who were guaranteed access to the expansion since The Beast was originally planned as the second major DLC for Dying Light 2. Now, the latest data confirms that one million fresh purchases have been made on Steam alone, independent of Ultimate Edition bundles.
Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Elliott also shared some insight into the player base. Around 82% of The Beast players previously played the original Dying Light, while 77% had played Dying Light 2. This suggests that the new installment is primarily drawing back long-time fans of the series.
Dying Light: The Beast recently topped Steam’s weekly sales chart, but it wasn’t the only strong performer in September. Borderlands 4 added 337,000 units to its already impressive two million sold earlier this month. Hollow Knight: Silksong sold another 255,000 units on top of its five million, while indie titles like Peak and Shape of Dreams continued to perform strongly.
Other notable success stories include No, I’m Not Human, a horror visual novel from Trioskaz, which sold over 200,000 copies in its debut week, and Jump Space, a cooperative sci-fi adventure from Keepsake, which had a strong early access launch and even outperformed EA Sports FC 26 on Steam.
Meanwhile, Hades saw a surge of over 150,000 additional units sold thanks to a 75% discount, pushing its total past nine million. With Hades II preparing to leave early access in two days, Alinea Analytics expects it to be the next massive hit on Steam. The game has already sold over two million copies in early access, and projections suggest it could hit two million daily active users at launch.
What do you think of Dying Light: The Beast hitting this milestone? Do you see it becoming as long-lived as the original Dying Light?
