DokeV Targets 2H 2028 as Pearl Abyss Shifts Developers From Crimson Desert
Pearl Abyss is beginning to redirect development resources from Crimson Desert toward DokeV, with the company now officially targeting the second half of 2028 for the long awaited open world action adventure. According to the Pearl Abyss 2Q26 Earnings Letter, development has progressed beyond its foundational systems and is now focused on expanding content while validating the core gameplay loop.

The transition follows the successful March 2026 launch of Crimson Desert. Pearl Abyss says resources are progressively moving to DokeV as post launch patch operations stabilize, while development manpower assigned to the new game is steadily expanding to accelerate production. This does not mean support for Crimson Desert is ending. The company continues working on new content, including a DLC scheduled for 2026, while a Nintendo Switch 2 version is targeting the first half of 2027, as detailed in Pearl Abyss’ broader Crimson Desert expansion strategy.
DokeV is currently planned for release during 2H 2028, while Pearl Abyss expects its major marketing campaign to begin during 2H 2027. That campaign is expected to include playable hands on demos alongside a gradual release of new gameplay footage and information as development milestones are reached. Pearl Abyss says the approach is deliberately tied to the state of production rather than beginning a lengthy promotional campaign years before the game is ready.
The project was originally introduced alongside Crimson Desert and PLAN 8 at G Star 2019. Pearl Abyss currently describes DokeV as a creature collecting open world action adventure where players explore a colorful world alongside creatures called Dokebi. The original concept has evolved considerably since its announcement, with the current project emphasizing exploration, dynamic action, distinctive visuals, and interactive gameplay systems.
Pearl Abyss also confirmed that PLAN 8 remains in active development, meaning DokeV is not the studio's only major project beyond Crimson Desert. However, the increasingly specific 2028 target and expanding development team indicate that DokeV is now moving into a substantially more active production phase after years of limited public information.
The most important part of this update is not simply the 2028 release window. Pearl Abyss finally has the production capacity to move developers from Crimson Desert into DokeV without abandoning its successful new franchise. Crimson Desert effectively became both a commercial foundation and a technology pipeline for what comes next, giving DokeV access to development experience, tools, assets, and BlackSpace Engine improvements accumulated during one of Pearl Abyss' largest projects.
Waiting until 2H 2027 for major marketing also makes sense. DokeV has already spent years in the public eye with very little new footage, so another premature campaign would only restart expectations before the project is ready. A playable demonstration followed by a 2028 launch would give Pearl Abyss a much cleaner path back into the spotlight.
After years of waiting, are you still interested in DokeV, or does Pearl Abyss need a major gameplay showcase in 2027 to rebuild the hype?
