Crimson Desert Patch 1.06 Expands Mount Options, Adds Gear Extraction, and Introduces a Surprise Claw Machine
Pearl Abyss has officially released Crimson Desert Patch 1.06.00 across Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Epic Games Store, and Mac, with the update now live on all major platforms except the Mac App Store version, which remains in progress. The new patch centers on two headline additions that players have been asking for: a new Extraction system for recovering upgrade materials from refined equipment, and a major expansion to the game’s Special Mount system.
The biggest gameplay quality of life upgrade in Patch 1.06 is clearly Extraction. Pearl Abyss has added a new feature that allows players to partially recover materials used to refine equipment by visiting smithies in various regions. The system lets players either extract a single refinement level or roll the item all the way back to its original base refinement level, while keeping the equipment itself intact. According to the official patch notes, special materials such as Artifacts and Aeserion’s scale are recovered at 100% of the amount used, while common materials such as iron ore, copper ore, and bloodstones are recovered at around 70%.
That change is likely to land especially well with players managing multiple gear sets, since Crimson Desert’s progression loop can make refining several visually distinct equipment pieces expensive and time consuming. By allowing materials to be reclaimed without destroying the item, Pearl Abyss is effectively giving players more room to experiment with builds and equipment progression without the same level of permanent resource loss. That is not stated directly in the patch notes, but it is a reasonable gameplay implication of how the new system works.
Patch 1.06 also significantly broadens the Special Mount feature. Players can now register Bears, Boars, Wolves, Deer, Mountain Goats, Kuku Birds, Iguanas, Raptors, Camels, Lions, and Tigers as special mounts after gaining their trust. The patch notes explain that ferocious animals can be tamed by subduing and feeding them, while some other species require unique methods. Pearl Abyss has also added a dedicated Special Mounts tab to the inventory UI and changed the presentation of these mounts so saddles no longer appear as part of their default appearance. Instead, saddles can now be equipped separately and purchased from saddleries in different cities.
Outside of those headline systems, the patch adds several smaller but still meaningful features. Oongka now gets new unarmed combat skills, swords now support visible sheaths through a new Display Sheath option, and a new item called Sigil of Valor allows pet dogs to attack enemies when equipped. Then comes the most unexpected addition in the entire update: Pearl Abyss has added a claw machine to the Laughing Marionette. By spending 1 silver, players can try for rewards that include 12 lighting items, 1 chair, 1 special headgear item, Abyss Artifacts, and Abyss Gears.
The rest of the patch is substantial as well. Pearl Abyss lists improvements to equipment enhancement, combat actions, UI, controls, graphics settings, and localization, alongside a wide range of quest, boss, and item related fixes. Among the broader changes are a new Night Tone Mode visual option, improved stacking behavior for some furniture and ornaments, increased fish selling prices, higher chances of obtaining Abyss Gear Blueprints at certain strongholds, and multiple combat and boss encounter fixes.
Overall, Patch 1.06 looks like one of Crimson Desert’s more player focused updates so far. It does not just add content for the sake of novelty. It also addresses long standing friction points in progression and mount handling, while still delivering a few weirder touches that keep the game’s sandbox identity lively. For players who have been waiting for more flexibility in equipment upgrading and more personality in traversal options, this is a meaningful update.
What do you think is the bigger win in Patch 1.06: the new Extraction system, or the ability to ride everything from bears to raptors?
