CONTROL Resonant Surpasses 1 Million Sales, Becoming Remedy's Fastest Selling Game

Remedy Entertainment has achieved a major commercial milestone with CONTROL Resonant, confirming that its latest action RPG surpassed 1 million copies sold worldwide within 3 weeks of release. The achievement makes it the fastest selling game in the Finnish developer's 31 year history and represents a significant success for its growing independent publishing strategy. According to Remedy's Q3 2026 financial report, the game reached the milestone on October 15, coinciding with the launch of its physical editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Released digitally on September 24, 2026, CONTROL Resonant marked a major evolution of the franchise, introducing Dylan Faden as the protagonist and expanding the supernatural adventure into a distorted Manhattan. The sequel also shifted toward more aggressive melee combat and deeper RPG mechanics, a creative direction that appears to have resonated with both existing fans and newcomers.

Remedy CEO Jean Charles Gaudechon described the achievement as a defining moment for the company, particularly because CONTROL Resonant represents its first internally published project of this scale.

"One million copies is a very strong start."

The game's commercial performance contributed to a substantial improvement in Remedy's financial results. Revenue for Q3 2026 reached €39.6 million, an increase of 226% compared with €12.2 million during the same period in 2025. Operating profit improved to €0.6 million, recovering from a €16.4 million operating loss a year earlier. Game sales and royalties generated €35.3 million during the quarter, primarily supported by CONTROL Resonant preorders and its first 7 days of sales.

The company also revealed that approximately 50% of CONTROL Resonant players were newcomers to the franchise, demonstrating its ability to attract audiences beyond those who experienced the original Control. The United States represented nearly half of worldwide sales, while China and the United Kingdom emerged as important PC markets.

Player reception has been equally encouraging. As of November 2, the game held an 83 Metacritic critic score, an 8.8 user score, and 91% positive reviews on Steam. Remedy also highlighted the technical scalability of its Northlight engine, which allows CONTROL Resonant to run across a wide range of PC hardware while supporting advanced rendering technologies. The game's PC requirements and graphics configurations illustrate this approach, ranging from older graphics cards to high end systems capable of path traced visuals.

The results represent a considerable turnaround from Remedy's challenging Q2 financial performance, when revenue declined 40% as the company increased investment ahead of CONTROL Resonant's launch. With 2.4 million outstanding wishlists, Remedy believes the game has additional commercial potential beyond its initial success.

Looking ahead, the studio plans to continue supporting CONTROL Resonant while advancing the Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake in collaboration with Rockstar Games. An additional unannounced project has also reached production readiness.

CONTROL Resonant's commercial success is an encouraging development for Remedy and the broader single player gaming industry. After the difficulties surrounding FBC: Firebreak, the studio has demonstrated that ambitious narrative driven experiences can still attract substantial audiences without relying on multiplayer monetization or live service systems.

What makes this milestone particularly important is Remedy's publishing independence. By retaining ownership of Control and taking greater responsibility for distribution and commercial operations, the developer has more control over its franchise's long term direction. However, increased independence also means assuming greater financial risks, including marketing expenses, development investment, and platform distribution costs.

The fact that approximately half of CONTROL Resonant's players are newcomers is especially promising. It suggests that developers can expand established franchises through meaningful gameplay changes without abandoning the creative identity that made those games successful.

Nevertheless, 1 million copies sold does not automatically establish that the entire project has recovered its investment. Remedy's improving financial results provide a positive indication, but the company's longer term performance will depend on continued sales and sustainable operating margins.

Do you think CONTROL Resonant's success proves that ambitious single player games remain commercially competitive, or should Remedy continue exploring multiplayer experiences alongside franchises such as Control and Alan Wake?
