COLORFUL Pushes 192 GB DDR5 to 6600 MT/s CL28 on X870E Motherboard
COLORFUL has demonstrated an impressive memory overclocking achievement on AMD's AM5 platform, running 192 GB of DDR5 at 6600 MT/s with CL28 timings using all 4 memory slots. The result was achieved on the upcoming iGame X870E ULTRA-S V14 motherboard paired with an AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor, highlighting improvements in memory signal integrity and BIOS optimization for high capacity configurations.
According to COLORFUL's official announcement, the system used 4 × 48 GB iGame Shadow II DDR5 modules originally rated at 6000 MT/s CL30. The company increased memory speed by 10% while tightening CAS latency from CL30 to CL28, achieving a demanding configuration for a fully populated AM5 motherboard. COLORFUL also published CPU-Z screenshots and RunMemTestPro results showing the configuration completing its stability test without reported errors.
Achieving high DDR5 frequencies with 4 populated DIMM slots is considerably more challenging than using 2 modules. The additional electrical load increases demands on the CPU's integrated memory controller, while motherboard trace routing, signal integrity, and memory training become critical for maintaining stability. COLORFUL's achievement is particularly noteworthy because it combines high capacity with aggressive primary timings rather than focusing exclusively on maximum memory frequency.
The new iGame X870E ULTRA-S V14 features an 8 layer PCB, a 16+2+1 phase power design with 80A DrMOS stages, and an independent clock generator for additional tuning flexibility. The motherboard is rated for DDR5 8400+ overclocking under suitable configurations, although that specification should not be interpreted as guaranteed performance with 4 populated DIMMs. Additional features include 5 M.2 SSD slots, 4 SATA ports, and the company's X3D AI High Frame Rate optimization mode.
The demonstration follows COLORFUL's previous achievement of DDR5 speeds exceeding 8800 MT/s using CXMT memory on AM5. However, that result involved smaller 2 module configurations designed for maximum frequency, while the latest test focuses on maintaining high performance with substantially greater memory capacity.
COLORFUL plans to launch the iGame X870E ULTRA-S V14 in China ahead of the November 11 Singles' Day shopping event. Pricing and international availability remain unannounced.
COLORFUL's achievement demonstrates meaningful progress in DDR5 memory tuning on AMD's AM5 platform. While DDR5 8000 and higher frequencies are increasingly common on specialized 2 DIMM motherboards, achieving 6600 MT/s CL28 with 192 GB across 4 modules presents a different level of engineering complexity.
The result is particularly relevant for creators, developers, and workstation users who require substantial memory capacity without sacrificing bandwidth and latency. Gaming systems rarely need 192 GB, but improved memory training and signal integrity could eventually benefit more conventional 64 GB and 128 GB configurations.
However, manufacturer validation does not guarantee identical results across retail systems. CPU memory controller quality, module selection, voltage, BIOS revisions, and memory topology all influence stability. Independent testing will be necessary to establish whether this configuration can operate reliably under sustained everyday workloads.
Would you prioritize 192 GB of DDR5 running at 6600 MT/s CL28, or would you rather use a smaller 2 DIMM configuration capable of reaching 8000 MT/s or higher?
