Clive Barker’s Undying RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod Alpha Is Now Available on ModDB
Clive Barker’s Undying just got a serious modern lighting makeover, thanks to a new RTX Remix path tracing mod Alpha release now live on ModDB. The project is dedicated to the classic survival horror shooter that originally shipped from EA Los Angeles roughly 25 years ago, built on the earliest iteration of Epic’s Unreal Engine, and it is exactly the kind of legacy title that benefits from RTX Remix’s ability to rebuild visuals without rewriting the game from scratch.
The modder, Pathtracedparadise, has already completed a heavy visual overhaul pass, including replacement of more than 1,000 textures so far with 2048x2048 PBR materials. The workflow described for this Alpha leans on Topaz Gigapixel for upscaling and detail enhancement, followed by manual touch ups where needed, while PBRFusion was used to generate PBR maps through ComfyUI. In practical terms, this is a texture and material pipeline that aims to preserve the original atmosphere while upgrading the fidelity to match what modern lighting can deliver.
Because this is an Alpha, coverage is focused rather than complete. The mod currently targets the first couple of hours plus a few later sections, while the remainder of the game is playable with lighting that has been automatically placed via a custom D3D9 renderer. The modder notes that these lights are not always positioned ideally yet and still require manual adjustment pass by pass to reach the intended quality bar.
At the moment, the Alpha has known issues that are important to flag before you invest time into a full run. Mirrors still require fixes, portals do not animate, skyboxes are not rendering correctly, and only some of the Scrye reveals work as intended. The download is currently around 10.5 GB, so it is a real commitment even at this early stage.
If you want to jump in, the setup flow is straightforward but specific. You first need the Undying Renewal mod, which adds proper widescreen support with more resolution options up to 4K, quality of life improvements, controller support, multiplayer support, subtitles support, restored cut content, a Vulkan renderer for improved performance, reduced load times, and a functional in game settings menu. After installing that, extract the files from the folder labeled Place contents in Undying System folder into your game’s System directory, for example C:\GOG Games\Clive Barker’s Undying\System, and overwrite when prompted. Run the game once to confirm the RTX Remix hooks install correctly, you should see an on screen message and be able to open the RTX Remix menu with Alt plus X. Close the game, create an rtx remix folder inside your System folder, then extract the full Undying RTX Mod folder into the mods folder inside rtx remix. Field of view adjustments are handled by editing the value directly in User.ini.
Outside of Undying, RTX Remix continues to evolve as a creator platform. NVIDIA recently unveiled RTX Remix Logic at CES 2026, which is designed to let modders attach new dynamic effects to in game events. That is a big deal for projects like this, because it moves RTX Remix beyond visuals into the territory of reactive experiences, where lighting and effects can respond to gameplay moments rather than only passively replacing the renderer.
And for fans of Clive Barker’s broader universe, there is also Hellraiser: Revival in development at Saber Interactive, currently scheduled to release this year, making 2026 a surprisingly strong year for classic horror energy across both mods and new releases.
Which classic horror game would you want to see get the RTX Remix treatment next, and would you prefer faithful preservation or a more aggressive modern reimagining?
