CAPCOM Reportedly Plans Bigger Resident Evil Expansions as Veronica Targets Early 2027
CAPCOM is reportedly preparing a new content strategy for Resident Evil that would place greater emphasis on substantial story expansions between major releases. The approach is expected to begin with Resident Evil Requiem, while development on Resident Evil Veronica is reportedly accelerating toward a possible Q1 2027 launch.
CAPCOM has officially confirmed that additional content is planned for Resident Evil Requiem, which launched on February 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The publisher has not publicly detailed the story, scope, or release date of its next major expansion, but known Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem claims it will be comparable in length and ambition to Separate Ways from Resident Evil 4 and Shadows of Rose from Resident Evil Village.
"CAPCOM is investing into doing more lengthy story DLC in the future of Resident Evil, of the length and ambition of Separate Ways and Shadows of Rose, for both Requiem and future Resident Evil titles.
— Dusk Golem”
According to the insider, CAPCOM sees larger expansions as a temporary solution to the absence of smaller Resident Evil releases such as Revelations, Chronicles, and Survivor. These story expansions could explore more experimental characters and scenarios while helping the publisher maintain a steady release schedule between full games.
The reported strategy would allow CAPCOM to expand existing titles without committing to the production costs and development schedules required for separate releases. Resident Evil Requiem has already received continued support through its free LEON MUST DIE FOREVER mode, which we previously examined, the combat focused bonus update. CAPCOM has also used free updates and new content to maintain player engagement following the game’s record setting commercial launch.
The Resident Evil Requiem story expansion will reportedly arrive after Resident Evil Veronica, suggesting players may have to wait until later in 2027. CAPCOM officially announced Veronica during Summer Game Fest 2026 and currently lists the remake for release sometime in 2027. The project will modernize the original Resident Evil Code: Veronica with updated gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and new visual technology.
However, Dusk Golem claims CAPCOM currently has all available resources focused on completing Resident Evil Veronica for Q1 2027. The studio will reportedly move the release into Q2 if additional development time is required, meaning the early 2027 target should not be treated as confirmed.
"Veronica is all hands on deck at the moment to see if they can get it finished for Q1 2027. They will delay it to Q2 if needed, but want to see if they can reach that goal.
— Dusk Golem”
Resident Evil Veronica follows Claire Redfield after the events of Resident Evil 2 as she searches for her brother Chris and becomes trapped on Rockfort Island. CAPCOM has described the project as a major reimagining rather than a direct recreation, with modernized gameplay and significant narrative changes expected.
Larger story expansions could give CAPCOM a practical way to explore characters and concepts that may not justify an entire standalone release. Separate Ways demonstrated that a focused expansion can add meaningful perspective to an existing campaign without feeling like disconnected optional content.
The challenge will be maintaining quality while extending development schedules. Resident Evil Requiem players may face a long wait if its expansion arrives only after Veronica, but a substantial story campaign would provide more long term value than a smaller content package. CAPCOM should prioritize complete and memorable experiences rather than releasing expansions simply to fill gaps in its calendar.
Would you prefer larger Resident Evil story expansions between main games, or should CAPCOM bring back standalone titles such as Revelations?
