Asgard Pushes CXMT DDR5 to 8800 MT/s on ASUS Z890 Motherboard

Chinese memory manufacturer Asgard has demonstrated a 48 GB DDR5 kit using domestic DRAM chips operating at 8800 MT/s on an Intel Z890 platform, setting a new reported performance milestone for memory based on ChangXin Memory Technologies silicon.

According to IT Home, the demonstration used an Asgard Valkyrie II Yao Series RGB or Heimdall Yao Series Special Edition DDR5 6000 kit containing 2 x 24 GB modules. The memory uses Chinese 3G8 DRAM components, referring to 24 Gb chips commonly associated with CXMT, and reached 8800 MT/s with CL46 56 56 132 timings.

The system was built around an ASUS Z890 AYW Gaming WiFi W, a mainstream Intel Core Ultra Series 2 motherboard equipped with 4 DDR5 memory slots rather than a specialized 2 DIMM overclocking layout. ASUS officially lists support for as much as 256 GB of DDR5 memory, although achievable frequencies depend heavily on the processor, module configuration, BIOS tuning, and integrated memory controller.

Using a 4 DIMM motherboard makes the result particularly notable. Boards with 2 memory slots generally provide shorter signal paths and fewer electrical challenges, giving them an advantage when pursuing extreme DDR5 frequencies. Reaching 8800 MT/s on a 4 slot design suggests that CXMT memory still has additional frequency potential when paired with optimized BIOS firmware and more specialized hardware.

However, Asgard has not disclosed the processor, voltages, secondary timings, cooling method, or complete stability testing used for the demonstration. The result should therefore be treated as an overclocking achievement rather than evidence that every retail kit will operate reliably at 8800 MT/s.

Motherboard manufacturers have recently accelerated firmware optimization for CXMT memory. MSI officially demonstrated CXMT modules operating at 8200 MT/s with CL44 56 56 132 timings on its 4 DIMM PRO Z890 S WiFi, completing more than 100% MemTest coverage. Colorful also pushed a CXMT based iGame Shadow II kit to 8600 MT/s on an AMD X870E platform paired with a Ryzen 9 9950X3D.

These developments show how rapidly CXMT has progressed from mainstream DDR5 6000 products toward enthusiast level frequencies, CXMT memory had reached 8600 MT/s on AMD hardware, while the company’s DRAM has also appeared inside selected Corsair Vengeance DDR5 modules.

The 8800 MT/s result does not place CXMT ahead of the fastest carefully selected memory from SK hynix, Samsung, or Micron, but it demonstrates that Chinese DRAM can no longer be dismissed as limited to entry level systems.

The most important development is the growing hardware ecosystem surrounding CXMT. ASUS, MSI, Colorful, and memory module manufacturers are investing in BIOS tuning, compatibility validation, and retail products using its chips. This support can improve real world performance even without major changes to the DRAM itself.

Batch consistency, voltage scaling, latency, stability, and manufacturing yields will ultimately matter more than a single frequency record. Nevertheless, reaching 8800 MT/s on a mainstream 4 DIMM motherboard is a strong signal that CXMT is becoming a credible competitor in the enthusiast DDR5 market.
