Bandai Namco’s Tales Series Has A Lot Brewing, But The Most Interesting Will Take A While to Show
As reported by Ryokutya2089, Bandai Namco’s Tales series has plenty in the works according to producer Yusuke Tomizawa, who shared new details with Famitsu ahead of the release of Tales of Xillia Remastered, launching October 30 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and others
Tomizawa confirmed that two remaster titles are currently in development under the ongoing Tales Remaster Project, each at different production stages ranging from early verification to the final development phase. Fans can expect news on the next remastered entry soon, with the official reveal planned for the near future. Additionally, he reassured fans that Tales of Xillia 2 Remastered remains in active development, and more details will be announced once the project nears completion.
Tomizawa also addressed the future of the Tales series, noting that the next mainline entry is in development but will take some time before its official announcement. This reflects a slower, more deliberate approach compared to previous console generations, where multiple Tales titles were often released in rapid succession within Japan. While the wait since Tales of Arise (2021) continues to grow, the team seems focused on ensuring the next chapter delivers a high-quality experience worthy of the series’ reputation.
Perhaps the most surprising revelation from the interview is that over 70% of the Tales series audience now comes from Western regions. Despite the franchise’s long history of late or Japan-exclusive releases, such as the Tales of Destiny remake and Tales of Rebirth, international fans have grown to become the core of its global success.
Interestingly, both Destiny and Rebirth remain highly regarded among fans, leading to speculation that one of them might be among the two remasters currently in development. For those eager to experience these previously Japan-only titles, fan projects have made them more accessible. In 2023, Life Bottle Productions released an English translation patch for Tales of Rebirth, complete with new features like battle subtitles and localized cutscenes.
As Bandai Namco continues expanding the Tales legacy, the mix of nostalgia through remasters and anticipation for a fresh adventure promises to keep fans captivated in the years ahead.
