Xbox Products Remain Available at Target and Walmart Despite Rumors
Over the weekend, several Reddit users reported that Target and Walmart, two of the largest retailers in the United States, were removing Xbox products from their physical stores. The rumor quickly spread throughout the Xbox community, especially following previous reports that Costco had already discontinued Xbox stock last month.
However, reports soon emerged contradicting these claims. YouTuber Destin Legarie personally contacted both Walmart and Target locations to confirm the situation and shared his findings on X (Twitter). According to store employees, there were no indications that Xbox stock was being discontinued or cleared. One Target employee did mention a temporary delay in shipments, with the next batch expected to arrive on October 19th.
Further confirmation came from Windows Central, which conducted its own investigation and found no evidence that either retailer was removing Xbox products. The publication even obtained an official statement from Microsoft, which clarified:
“Target and Walmart, among other retailers, remain committed partners for Xbox consoles, accessories, and games.”
This misinformation highlights the growing tension and uncertainty within the Xbox community. Following a string of studio closures, mass layoffs, and the controversial Xbox Game Pass restructuring, fans have become increasingly sensitive to any negative news surrounding the brand.
The recent restructuring of Game Pass has drawn widespread criticism. The Ultimate tier experienced a 50% price increase, while the new Premium tier will not include Call of Duty titles. These changes came only weeks after Xbox executives stated that Game Pass was already profitable and had just reached record-breaking revenue in the previous fiscal year.
As a result, frustrated users flooded the Game Pass cancellation page, temporarily overwhelming Microsoft’s servers. Analysts warn that the brand may suffer long-term damage as player trust continues to erode due to unclear strategies and ongoing controversies.
For now, gamers can rest assured that Xbox consoles, accessories, and games remain fully available at both Target and Walmart. Still, this incident serves as another reminder of how fragile Xbox’s relationship with its fanbase has become.
What are your thoughts on this situation? Do you think Xbox can regain its community’s confidence after so many missteps?
