Xbox Introduces Mythic Achievements for 100% Game Completion

Microsoft is adding Mythic Achievements to Xbox, creating a new profile status for players who complete a game's original achievement list. The system also recognizes eligible past completions, including titles from the Xbox 360 generation. Starting September 29, 2026, Xbox Insiders can get an early look at Mythic Achievements, according to Xbox Wire. Microsoft has not announced when the feature will become available more broadly.

Players earn Mythic status by unlocking every achievement included with the original game. Achievements introduced later through DLC or updates are excluded, and once Mythic status is earned it remains attached to that completion.

Microsoft is also applying the system retroactively. Games completed before the feature existed can automatically receive Mythic status if they meet the requirements, including eligible Xbox 360 titles. Longtime players may therefore discover that games already in their achievement history qualify for Mythic status.

Alongside Mythic Achievements, Xbox profiles now include a new Gaming tab bringing together achievements, completed games, Gamerscore milestone badges, and Mythic completions. Mythic games receive a distinctive frame, while players can also visit friends' Gaming tabs to compare progress and completed titles.

For games still in progress, achievement lists include a new progress bar showing how close the player is to Mythic status. Players can focus specifically on the original achievements they still need, while achievements added later are labeled separately so it remains clear which ones count toward Mythic. Similar progression information is also displayed through the Xbox Guide and individual achievement details.

Mythic Achievements give Xbox a more recognizable marker for finishing a game's core achievement set without replacing Gamerscore. PlayStation has long used Platinum trophies as a visible marker for completing a primary trophy list, while Xbox traditionally represented progress mainly through Gamerscore and individual completion percentages.

Mythic Achievements address a long standing difference in how Xbox presents full game completion. Gamerscore tracks cumulative progress effectively, but finishing an individual title has traditionally had less visible recognition.

The retroactive implementation is particularly useful for longtime players. Xbox accounts can carry achievement histories stretching back to the Xbox 360 generation, and existing completions can qualify without requiring players to repeat them.

Excluding achievements introduced later also keeps the system practical. A completed game retains its Mythic status even if developers expand its achievement list through future DLC or updates.
