Xbox Game Pass Rumor Claims $19.99 Price, Ads, and End of Day One Games
Xbox Game Pass could receive another major restructuring in 2027, with a new rumor claiming Microsoft is considering lower pricing, an ad supported tier, separate cloud gaming and multiplayer subscriptions, and the removal of new day one releases from its main Game Pass offering. Microsoft has responded, but importantly, it has not confirmed that any of these changes are finalized.
The rumor originated from ResetEra moderator Slayven, who previously shared information about earlier Game Pass tier changes. Insider NateTheHate later noted that the source behind the information appears to have knowledge of Microsoft's subscription plans, although the 2027 proposal should still be treated as unconfirmed.
The biggest reported change would reduce the main ad free Game Pass subscription from the current $22.99 Game Pass Ultimate price to $19.99 per month or $239.99 annually. However, the lower price would reportedly come with the removal of new day one games sometime between February and April 2027.
| Reported 2027 Option | Rumored Price |
|---|---|
| Game Pass with Ads | $12.99 per month |
| Game Pass without Ads | $19.99 per month |
| Annual Ad Free Plan | $239.99 |
| Game Library + Online Multiplayer | $14.99 per month |
| Online Multiplayer Only | $10.99 per month |
| Cloud Gaming Add On | $5.99 per month |
| Family Plan Add On | $5.99 per month |
Cloud gaming would reportedly become a separate $5.99 add on providing around 25 hours of streaming rather than remaining integrated into Game Pass. That would be a major change considering Microsoft only recently confirmed that Game Pass cloud gaming will move to monthly playtime limits beginning in November 2026. Ultimate will officially include 15 hours per month, Premium 10 hours, and Essential 5 hours before users need to purchase additional time.
The rumored removal of day one games would be even more significant. Microsoft currently advertises Game Pass Ultimate at $22.99 per month with select new games available on launch day, excluding future Call of Duty releases. Premium costs $14.99 and generally receives selected new Xbox games within 1 year, while Essential costs $9.99.
Xbox has already begun moving away from universal day one availability. In April, Microsoft lowered Ultimate from $29.99 to $22.99 and confirmed that future Call of Duty games would no longer enter Game Pass at launch, instead arriving approximately 1 year later.
Microsoft has now responded to the wider 2027 rumor, saying it regularly tests different Game Pass offerings across markets and currently has no finalized changes to announce. Xbox also confirmed that games already announced for Game Pass Ultimate on day one will still arrive as promised.
That distinction matters. Xbox is still actively advertising day one releases, including Minecraft Dungeons II and Gears of War: E Day in its latest September Game Pass update. The rumored restructuring therefore appears to concern future policy rather than games already promised to subscribers.
Microsoft has already lowered Game Pass pricing, removed day one Call of Duty releases, and introduced upcoming cloud gaming limits, so another restructuring would fit the direction Xbox has taken throughout 2026.
Removing day one releases entirely would be a much larger change. That feature has been one of Game Pass Ultimate's clearest selling points for years, and a $3 monthly reduction may not feel significant enough if subscribers lose immediate access to Xbox's biggest new games.
The most important part of Microsoft's response is that nothing has been finalized. Until Xbox publishes a new tier structure, the reported $19.99 pricing, ad supported plan, and separate cloud subscription remain rumors.
Would you accept a cheaper $19.99 Game Pass if new Xbox games no longer launched on the service day one?
