WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers Patch 1.6 Brings Major VRAM Optimization and Performance Boosts on PC
WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers launched as a promising Soulslike with unique mechanics and atmosphere, but like many recent Unreal Engine 5 titles, it suffered from performance struggles at release. Developer Lenzee Games has been working to improve the situation, and with the release of Patch 1.06, players on PC are finally seeing significant gains in both VRAM optimization and overall performance.
The 5.3 GB update introduces a range of fixes and optimizations. Key highlights include:
Deluxe Edition Expansion Content added to all versions.
NVIDIA DLSS fix: Corrected an issue where visuals became extremely blurry when using Ultra Performance mode at certain screen resolutions.
VRAM optimization: The patch reduces VRAM consumption, improving stability and allowing smoother performance on GPUs with lower memory capacity.
According to benchmark tests from S2Games Bench, midrange systems (Ryzen 5600X + RTX 3070) see up to 12% higher performance compared to the launch version.
VRAM issues have been a recurring bottleneck for modern UE5 games, especially when paired with demanding features like Lumen and Nanite. Many players with GPUs under 8 GB VRAM have struggled with frequent stutters, crashes, or low frame rates.
With Patch 1.06, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers becomes far more accessible to mid-tier PC builds, while even higher-end GPUs benefit from smoother frame pacing and reduced hitching.
WUCHANG isn’t alone in facing performance hurdles at launch. Other recent UE5 games illustrate the same challenges:
Borderlands 4 launched strong but continues to suffer from performance drops, requiring manual tweaks on even high-end rigs.
Silent Hill f runs well by comparison, but only by lowering internal resolution dramatically on consoles like the PS5, showing how much compromise is still required for stability.
The improvements in WUCHANG’s patch highlight how post-launch optimizations are becoming crucial to salvaging performance across many UE5-powered titles.
WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, with the PC version receiving the bulk of optimization efforts in this latest update.
If you’ve played WUCHANG since launch, have the new optimizations finally made it smooth enough on your system, or are UE5 games still too demanding for current-gen hardware?
