WB Games Montréal Likely Developing a New Live Service DC Comics Title, Job Listing Confirms
WB Games Montréal appears to be diving back into the DC Comics universe for its next major title and this time, it's likely to be a live service game. Following a job listing in October 2024 that confirmed the studio was working on a DC-licensed project, a new listing has emerged that suggests a clear direction for this upcoming title. The listing, which seeks an Executive Producer, strongly emphasizes live service operations, post-launch content, and ongoing player engagement.
According to the description, the Executive Producer will lead a AAA game based on a Warner Bros. or DC Comics IP, overseeing every stage of development—from concept to launch and long-term live service support. Specific responsibilities include managing cross-functional teams, aligning production with creative goals, ensuring QA and live service operations, and strategizing for continuous post-launch content.
“Oversee all phases of development, from concept to post-launch live operations… Oversee post-launch content and live service strategy, ensuring ongoing player engagement.”
This signals that WB Games Montréal’s next title will likely adopt a persistent, evolving model similar to games like Destiny 2, The Division, or, perhaps more relevantly, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. That comparison, however, may not sit well with fans.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, developed by Rocksteady Studios, suffered a critical and commercial downfall upon release. The game’s live service design, repetitive gameplay loops, and lackluster narrative resulted in widespread backlash, culminating in a $200 million drop in EBITDA and a 41% year-over-year decline in revenue for Warner Bros. Games a stark contrast to the wildly successful launch of Hogwarts Legacy.
Despite that, Warner Bros. is doubling down on the live service model. The company has restructured its games division into four distinct segments focused on its largest IPs and continues to explore ways to turn franchises like Hogwarts Legacy into long-term, service-based ecosystems. The inclusion of live service plans in WB Games Montréal’s next DC project is therefore consistent with the publisher’s ongoing strategy.
As for which DC character or universe the game will revolve around, no details have been confirmed. WB Games Montréal has a clear history with DC titles, previously developing Batman: Arkham Origins and Gotham Knights, so it's safe to assume this new project will fall within the superhero action-adventure realm.
With development in its early stages, it will be some time before we see anything concrete. However, this latest listing offers the clearest indication yet that live service will continue to shape Warner Bros. Games' future even in the face of recent failures.
