Vampire Survivors Adds Four-Player Online Co-Op on PC and Consoles This Autumn

Developer Poncle has officially announced that Vampire Survivors is finally getting four-player online co-op for both PC and console versions later this Autumn. The surprise reveal came through a quirky new trailer on Poncle’s official YouTube channel, marking the first of what appears to be five upcoming updates teased for the hit indie game.

The video opens with five mysterious cards, each showing question marks. The first card flips over to reveal the Vampire Survivors logo and the word “Online.” The trailer then transitions to a nostalgic Windows 97-style desktop, where a mouse clicks on an icon labeled “VS_Online.exe” with the caption, “Press here for online.” The tongue-in-cheek humor playfully suggests that Poncle could have “activated” online multiplayer all along with the press of a single button, a perfect reflection of the game’s self-aware and lighthearted tone.

According to the video’s description, players will soon be able to free roam stages together, exploring environments while their friends face their own challenges across maps such as Astral Stair and Room 1665. The message warns, however, that “more players doesn’t make it easier… or does it?”, hinting that the game’s difficulty may dynamically scale based on the number of participants.

Poncle’s team teased that Autumn is their time to shine, inviting fans to return next week to see what the next card will reveal. The studio also hinted at possibly addressing one of the community’s longest-standing jokes - the fact that, despite its title, Vampire Survivors doesn’t actually feature vampires.

It’s unclear whether Poncle plans to announce and release each of these updates week by week, but such a rapid rollout would mark an exciting season for fans. Vampire Survivors continues to evolve long after its debut, having already won Best Game at the BAFTA Game Awards 2023, surpassing heavyweights like Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok.

With this new online co-op update, Vampire Survivors is poised to offer players the chaotic fun of surviving endless waves of enemies together for the first time.

Are you ready to dive into Vampire Survivors with your friends? Or do you think four-player chaos will make the challenge even tougher?
