Battlefield Studios and EA Tease that Naval Warfare is On the Horizon for Battlefield 6
With Battlefield 6 just days away from its worldwide launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, excitement among players is reaching new heights. The official Battlefield X post has revealed global launch times, confirming that over 1.7 million players who pre-ordered will be jumping into battle on October 10. Now, as the game nears release, Battlefield Studios and EA are already hinting at what comes next for the franchise.
In the latest Community Update shared on the official Battlefield website, the developers provided insights from recent Battlefield Labs testing and revealed what changes players can expect based on beta feedback. The post highlights adjustments to gameplay systems, balance improvements, and technical refinements made ahead of the launch.
At the end of the post, in a section titled "On the Horizon," Battlefield Studios shared a message that has fans buzzing with speculation:
“There is much more to look forward to beyond our Seasons as our team continues reviewing Battlefield Labs data, player feedback, and ideating on completely new ideas for the future, starting with an exciting new Battlefield take on Battle Royale.”
The developers also acknowledged some of the community’s most consistent requests, stating:
“Separately, requests for naval warfare have not gone unnoticed, nor have the calls for a certain fan-favourite little helicopter, platoons, and more. We appreciate all of your suggestions, and want you to know we’re listening.”
Although Season 1’s roadmap does not feature naval warfare or the return of the Little Bird helicopter, the acknowledgment confirms these ideas are part of Battlefield 6’s ongoing development discussions. The mention of naval combat immediately recalls the franchise’s roots, as older Battlefield titles such as Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 4 included large-scale sea battles with controllable ships and aircraft carriers.
The idea of a Battlefield Battle Royale is equally intriguing, especially given how the franchise’s large-scale destruction, vehicles, and sandbox combat could naturally lend themselves to the mode if executed well. Fans are already speculating that these features could appear in Season 2 or Season 3, depending on how post-launch updates progress.
EA and DICE appear committed to ensuring that Battlefield 6 evolves as a live service title built around ongoing feedback and innovation. The return of naval warfare, in particular, could mark a significant moment for the franchise, expanding the combat beyond land and air to deliver full-scale warfare across every front.
What do you think about naval combat returning to Battlefield? Would you dive into large-scale sea battles again if they come to Battlefield 6?
