UESP Wiki Met with Bethesda to Design a Character for The Elder Scrolls VI and Left ‘Extremely Excited’
The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages (UESP), one of the most respected community-driven wikis dedicated to The Elder Scrolls franchise, has confirmed that its team recently met with Bethesda Game Studios to collaborate on designing a character for The Elder Scrolls VI. The announcement was shared on X (twitter) and has since stirred widespread excitement among long-time Elder Scrolls fans.
“We just finished up a meeting with Bethesda where we got to design a character for The Elder Scrolls VI. Honestly, a lot of us went into the meeting pretty nervous and even reserved, but now we're all extremely excited for what's in store,” wrote the UESP team.
The message, while brief, has sparked intense speculation about what the collaboration could mean. The UESP team did not specify whether their enthusiasm stems from insight into the broader development of TES VI, such as seeing early concept material or gameplay footage, or simply from their involvement in crafting a character that will appear in the final game. Given the nature of such meetings, it’s almost certain the group signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with Bethesda, meaning additional details will remain confidential for some time.
Even so, the mere confirmation that trusted community contributors like UESP are participating in The Elder Scrolls VI’s development is a promising sign of how Bethesda is choosing to engage with its dedicated fanbase. UESP’s extensive contributions to Elder Scrolls lore and documentation over the years make them an ideal partner for ensuring continuity, depth, and authenticity in the next chapter of the series.
For context, The Elder Scrolls VI was first announced back at E3 2018, when Bethesda Game Studios revealed a short teaser trailer to reassure fans that the series was alive and well despite the controversial reception of Fallout 76. Following that, the studio focused its efforts on developing Starfield, its first new intellectual property in over 25 years, which officially launched in September 2023. It wasn’t until August 30, 2023, immediately after Starfield’s release, that TES VI officially entered full production.
In March 2024, Bethesda celebrated the 30th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls by confirming that TES VI was in internal playtesting and progressing through early development milestones. Game Director Todd Howard described it as the studio’s most ambitious project yet, calling it “the ultimate fantasy world simulator.”
While no official release window has been announced, industry analysts and fans alike speculate that The Elder Scrolls VI may not arrive until 2027 or 2028, aligning with Bethesda’s typical long development cycles. Should that timeline hold, Western RPG enthusiasts could be in for a monumental year, especially if CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher IV also releases around the same period.
For now, UESP’s involvement and their positive reaction serve as one of the most reassuring updates the Elder Scrolls community has received in years. Bethesda’s decision to collaborate directly with one of the franchise’s oldest fan institutions underscores a desire to respect the series’ lore and history as it moves into the next generation.
What kind of character do you think UESP helped create for The Elder Scrolls VI? Could it be a lore Easter egg or something that connects to the series’ long-running mythos?
