Ubisoft Announces The Division 2: Survivors and Mobile MMO The Division Resurgence at Gamescom 2025

Ubisoft has arrived at Gamescom 2025 with two major announcements for its long-running The Division franchise, revealing a new survival-focused expansion for The Division 2 and a free-to-play mobile MMO that expands the series’ story.

The first project, The Division 2: Survivors, is being described as a “survival extraction experience” and is set to launch in 2026. According to Ubisoft’s official blog post, development is still in the early stages, with Magnus Jansén, a series veteran since the first game in 2016, serving as creative director.

Executive producer Julian Gerighty emphasized community involvement in its development:

The Division 2: Survivors is as much your baby as it is ours, and we strive for transparency during its development. Clear communication and community involvement are a focus as we build the new experience, and we will be closely involving you as we move forward on the development journey.

While no gameplay details have been shared yet, Ubisoft did showcase concept art and confirmed that Survivors will aim to evolve the formula with player feedback shaping its design. Notably, despite Gerighty also being director of the still-unseen The Division 3, the official roadmap shown at Gamescom did not include the next mainline title.

The Division Resurgence: Expanding the Story to Mobile

The second announcement was The Division Resurgence, a mobile-exclusive MMO set in Manhattan a few months after the events of the first Division game. Ubisoft describes it as delivering “the same gameplay experience as the Division games adapted to mobile gaming.” While some PC and console players may dismiss the mobile entry, Ubisoft stressed its narrative significance, confirming that Resurgence will bridge the gap between The Division and The Division 2 by adding new story beats and lore expansions over time.

Players can pre-register now for Resurgence and may have a chance to participate in an upcoming closed beta test.

What’s Next for The Division

The Division franchise has continued to evolve, with The Division 2 still receiving regular support. Earlier this year, Ubisoft launched the Battle for Brooklyn expansion, and the next major content drop, Year 7 Season 2: The Pact, will arrive on September 9, 2025.

With Survivors expanding the core game in 2026 and Resurgence bringing the story to mobile this year, Ubisoft is signaling that The Division remains one of its most important live-service franchises.

Do you think Ubisoft’s mobile-first approach with Resurgence will strengthen the franchise’s lore, or will fans ignore it until The Division 3 finally arrives?
