Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 Is “Coming Along Really Well,” Says Director

After nearly a decade since the Final Fantasy VII Remake project began, the end of this ambitious trilogy is finally coming into view. Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is currently in active development, and according to game director Naoki Hamaguchi, progress is strong and steady. Speaking with Video Games Chronicle (VGC), Hamaguchi shared new details about the game’s direction, tone, and development status, expressing great confidence in the upcoming conclusion to Square Enix’s acclaimed reimagining of the classic RPG.

In the interview, Hamaguchi explained that the team aims to provide “a new gaming experience” distinct from the first two entries in the trilogy. He emphasized that Part 3 will explore a different kind of focus and gameplay structure, promising something fresh for both longtime fans and newcomers to the series. He also reassured that the project is on track, echoing Tetsuya Nomura’s earlier statement that development is “on schedule.”

“We’re working really hard on the third game in the Remake series at the moment. It’s coming along really well,” said Hamaguchi. “I’ve got in my head the vision now, the gameplay structure, the gameplay experience, the core experience, and it’s looking in a really good state.”

He went on to describe Part 3 as something “really satisfying that gamers can get their teeth into”, and that the team is brushing it up further to deliver an experience worthy of the trilogy’s epic finale.

“It’ll be just a brilliant experience that it really should be and has to be. So we’re going to work on that, brush that up even further, and then deliver it in the not-too-distant future. You really can look forward to the climax of the series, and it’ll be exactly what you want it to be. So don’t worry about that. It’s coming, and it’s just as good as you think it is. I’m very confident in the game that I’m making there.”

Overall, Hamaguchi’s confidence suggests that Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is nearing a polished and playable state, setting the stage for what could be one of Square Enix’s most anticipated releases of the coming years. With only one major gaming event left this year, The Game Awards 2025, fans are now speculating that Square Enix could reveal the official title and first teaser trailer before year’s end.
