The Halo CE Remake, Halo: Campaign Evolved, Has Been Revealed, Coming to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC in 2026
The long-rumored remake of Halo: Combat Evolved has finally been revealed. Titled Halo: Campaign Evolved, this modern reimagining of the original 2001 classic was officially announced during the Halo World Championship Celebration (WCC) and is described by Halo Studios and Xbox as “a faithful yet modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign.” The remake is slated to launch in 2026 on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and, for the first time ever, PlayStation 5.
This marks a historic milestone for the franchise, as Halo, long regarded as Xbox’s flagship exclusive, makes its debut on PlayStation platforms. The shift follows Halo Studios’ earlier confirmation that it would retire the Slipspace Engine and transition development to Unreal Engine 5, enabling greater visual fidelity and modern gameplay flexibility.
According to Halo Studios, nearly every asset, model, and environment has been completely rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, bringing a full graphical and technical overhaul to the original campaign while preserving its core story and level design. The developers emphasize that Campaign Evolved is not a reinterpretation but rather a faithful reconstruction designed to honor the legacy of Halo: Combat Evolved while introducing new players to its world with modern mechanics and visuals.
In addition to the full campaign, Halo: Campaign Evolved will include three brand-new prequel missions, which serve as a narrative bridge leading into the events of Combat Evolved. These bonus chapters aim to expand the lore while giving returning players fresh content beyond the classic missions.
For the first time in the series, the entire campaign will be playable in four-player online co-op, allowing players to experience Master Chief’s original journey together. The game will also include two-player couch co-op, a fan-requested feature that never materialized for Halo Infinite.
A 13-minute gameplay showcase was also revealed, highlighting the iconic Silent Cartographer mission rebuilt entirely in Unreal Engine 5, showing off the game’s updated lighting, terrain rendering, and environmental destruction systems.
As for what Campaign Evolved will not include, Halo Studios confirmed that multiplayer is not part of this release, as the title focuses solely on the single-player campaign experience. Fans who want to revisit the original Combat Evolved multiplayer can continue to do so through the Master Chief Collection, which remains the central hub for classic Halo PvP.
Early reactions to the announcement have been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the graphical overhaul and cross-platform approach. However, some fans are cautious about how the switch from the Slipspace Engine might impact the signature “feel” of Halo’s gameplay that Bungie originally perfected.
With Halo: Campaign Evolved arriving next year, the anticipation for this remake is immense. The idea of seeing Halo on PlayStation still feels surreal, but the franchise’s leap to Unreal Engine 5 could mark a bold new era for the series.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is now available to wishlist on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
